Windows XP Service Pack 2

I know nothing about computers so bear with me as I try to describe this. I just installed Windows XP Service Pack 2. Now, on my internet explorer are 6 light lines on the status bar at the bottom (left of the little internet world icon thing). If I click between the second line and third line from the left, it will bring up something about a popup blocker. What is that all about and why doesn't it do that when I click anywhere else?

Don't know, but I work for a computer company and have heard a lot of bad things about SP2. Machines crashing and shit like that.

yep, service pack 2 doesnt work with Intel Celeron Processors. My computer got totally fukd up last week because of it, windows just wouldnt start up. I couldnt re-install windows because the re-installation disk was for service pack 1A!!!

part of win xp sp2 is a pop-up blocker... if you go to internet explorer, at the top i beleive under "tools" you can disable the pop-up blocker if you want.

with SP2, internet explorer has a popup blocker and you can set it to high, low or disable it...it also has a firewall which by default is turned on..if you are using alot of third pary software then i dont recommend SP2, also set ur firewall to low cause this ****** blocks everything.

I disliked the new features that came with the SP2. Either way, install Mozilla Firefox. Once you go Mozilla, you never look back.

Use a 3rd party firewall.. microsoft firewall isn't the greatest (or even close)

Firefox is great! Fast, simple...only time I have trouble is certain unique plug-ins or IE only type places...few and far between.

Btw, most of the info you seek about SP2 can be found on Microsoft's web site or there's always Google.

My computer downloaded the update for Sp2. It keeps on asking me to install the updates. Is there anyway I can get rid of the update without installing?

i think it just has issues with some intel chipsets. the computer i tested it on at work was an AMD chip, nForce 2 chipset. it locked the computer up totally (as in total screen freeze which is wierd for XP) whenever i plugged in the intel DSL modem.

needless to say i uninstalled that piece of crap. give me norton and blackice any fucking day.

was it a USB modem? might need to update the drivers of the modem to the latest version (if available)..
