Mixing In Key Question

This may sound like a horribly dumb question, but if you're mixing in key do you really need to worry about BPM much? I recently saw an interview with Sandra Collins and she was saying that she doesn't know the BPM of her records, but instead knows the key of each of her records. I guess this is what really prompted the question.

im pretty sure theres a diesel thread covering this. i will however say that im pretty sure that if u move the pitch slider 3% ull be in a different key then wat it was originally

Yes, it's almost even more important, since the key changes (and you still need to beatmatch).
A C track at 130 BPM will be C# at 136.5 BPM or so (something around 5-5.2% I think), but even at a 3.5-4% increase you might be better off treating like if it was a C# track instead of C.

i bet the majority of djs dont know the bpm of tracks cose u dont really need to know u only correct with the pitch slider what u hear in the headphones anyway.

i don't "know the BPM of my records" either. who does? you don't care what the BPM is at +/-0%, you don't mix there.

and Sandra mixes in key??

I sure hope she mixes in key.
