Snowboard Season is nearly here......woohoo
Well its gettin near that time of year again, and I need some new snowboard boots, was wondering if theres any fellow boarders on here that can help we spend some of my not so earned cash.
My boots right now are crap, I need a boot that has awesome support, keeps your feet warm but still lets them breath, and has an awesome fit.
The ones I been looking at are the K2 Tracker Boa, Vans Contra, and the DC Judge, these all have that laceless system called the Boa, which seems like a great idea and would keep your feet 100% secure, although I do have a friend with some older boots with the system, and he says that after you have been carving and stretching the top of the boot, the bottom part gets tighter, I hope they have fixed this problem, anybody know?, but the main thing I'm asking for are other peoples opinions and you can also recommend any other boot, and please comment on the 3 I chose if you know anything, I need new boots bad and money isn't an issue, also theres a ski/snowboard conference here soon with all the makes showing there new gear, thats where I plan to buy them.
I hear ya man, I'm getting stoked for this season, its snowing beautifully outside and its just gettin me more and more hyped, I went out about 13 times last year, hope to get over 20 this year, and hit more resorts aswell as go backcountry, but I need to get a beacon first.
I know what you mean about turning toe edge and your heel lifting up, I got the same problem, I do my crappy boots up nice and tight and after 1 run, there kinda loose again, plus they got no inner padding and feel like crap, and when your out in -40'C weather they really don't help.
i cant wait for snowboard season either. i need new boots, because me feet grew and even last year i needed them, but i survived. hopefully it wont be TOO bad this year, because i have many other things i wish to spend money on. i kind of regret not getting a season pass a few weeks ago, when it was cheap. now they're several hundred dollars and like i said, i have elsewhere to spend my cash. i hope to go atleast 15 tims this year, but the nearest place is about an hour away and gas prices are just going up so we'll have to see......
around here the resorts open in just under a month.. what about for you guys?
The season here starts soon aswell, I know that Lake Louise opens November 6th, and that ski/snowboard conference starts on the 5th, so I hope to get some awesome boots and hit the mountains the next day.
anticipation is high up the sky
check out some 32 boots.
of all the ones I tried on, they were the most comfy. Ive never had temperature or slipping issues with them, and the shell has a lacing system, as well as the boot(ie you lock yourself DOWN, then BACK)
just look at 32...they do good stuff.

i hope that we get some quality snow this year too. around here they machine make the snow... last year i think it snowed enough ONCE to where we actually sunk in the snow and had some powder... that was the most fun i've ever had, just cause we dont experience poweder for the most part. i hope that over the xmas break we get (im still in HS) i can get myself and some friends to colorado and snowboard on some REAL mountains. im tired of taking >5 minutes to get the bottom of the runs. stupid weak 400ft elevation
Last year my first time out that season we went to Kicking Horse, oh man, it had TONS of fresh snow and it has a 9000 foot elevation, if you follow the jeep trail down its 10km long, but that day it was all about the backcountry, at one point I sank and it was upto my chest, it wasn't fun getting out though.

Well don't really play any games, other than "Dodge the tree", but I have scared the shit out of skiers, I have got some crazy speeds before, wish I could find out exactly how fast I was going.
yeah, dodge the tree sounds like it could be fun. just dont pull a sonny bono or you're fukt... what kinda injuries have you guys pulled off on the slopes. lol... i have gotten the typical scrapes and bruises, but my worst injury was a cracked tailbone, which i recracked 5 months later rollerblading
i still get little pains now and then when i bump it...
I dont care how much of a dork I look like with a helmet on, but after taking out a tree(about 4 feet tall, 1/2 inch diameter) with my head I decided it would be best for me wear one.

I need a helmet, I don't care how they look, they just annoy me, I'm always fijiting (sp?) with them, same with mountain bike helmets.
I have been lucky and haven't done any damage to myself yet, I did have a bad fall one time and thought I broke my neck, I was shooting down the slope, was heading to the halfpipe and before I got there, there was a rock that you couldn't see just slightly sticking out enough to catch the front of my board, I went flying into the air, and landed on my neck, I was stunned and couldn't quite move, I also heard a crack when I fell on it, I lay there to scared to move just incase I couldn't move, but then I twitched and realised I was ok, it must of been a muscle that made that crack sound, my neck was super stiff the next day, I'v had one other fall like that, wasn't as bad though, the rest are your usual biffs and tumbles from jumps and catching an edge.
Thats one good thing about powder, its hard to hurt yourself, me and a couple mates were out backcountry and I went shooting down this not far off vertical drop, when I started to level out I dunno what happened but the next thing I knew, I was upside down with my head in the snow, oh god it must of looked so dam funny, I was even laughing, my mates thought it was great aswell, wish I had a camera.
LOL.. that would look hilarious.
as far as the crack, im guessing you just cracked the joints... i do it all the time to ease up stiffness. fuckin man made snow... one day the temp goes about 32F / 0 C and the next time it gets below freezing, its pure ice done every slope. hard as hell to carve and you fall, you're down for the day...
Yea I know man, I've had my fair share of ice runs, ice was actually what I practiced on, since I couldn't make it to any decent mountain resorts, I got so used to the ice that good conditions I found hard, but its all good now, I'm fine with the snow and still have no trouble on ice, but its no where near as fun, and if you go down, its hard to get back up.
hey, are any of you snowboard.com members?
if so, whats your username
mine's 'solar_manifestation'
you should look for the snowboard buyers guide. if you got a sports store around like rei they'll have it or should have it anyway. i'm not looking for gear this year, just clothes. i looked at ride and burton boots last year. ending up getting the shuan white model burton boots. i hear ride boots are good though. on the boa system i've also heard that it'll automatically tighten up when you start boarding and my get too tight sometimes but thats just here-say, you gotta give them a try. i like the idea of the boa system, i even tried the northwave boa last season. too bad my foot doesn't fit northwave boots too well. other then that make sure the boot will fit the bindings that your using.
season's gonna start soon in japan too. MT Fuji got dusted just the other day but the local hill here in Hakodate won't open until mid december
i think i'm going to pick this up finally.
seems interesting enough, and i might as well do somthing while i wait for winter to end.

| Originally posted by Nou I never really gotten that badly injured, bruises, scrapes, a few bumps on the head and getting the wind knocked out of me. Two of my friends have broken arms on the mountains before, lucky they were still inbounds and they had a team come up and carry them down on sleds. Dodge the trees is fun, cept we always have really wide wells around the trees here, so its more dodge the hole of death than anything else. I have tried helmets, but my head gets way to hot in them, and I also dehydrate easily, so thats not good, I dont do alot of tricks either so I figure Im at a slightly less risk of head injury. I got a camelback or whatever those things are called a year or two back that I havnt tried, Im waiting to see if it helps me when Im up their, anyone else ever use them? |
