You can but its not reliable since, I believe, they are belt driven. Either way, 123dj is a scam of a store and Ive read alot of poor reviews.

whats belt driven mean? why is that bad?

From what I've read, belt driven decks lose pitch control more easily and power to the turntable is lost through the belt.

hows that set?

Posted by roosh on Oct-25-2004 21:55:

you sound impatient... just save up money and buy the right stuff the first time. you think you're saving money by buying cheap now but in the long-run you will be spending a lot more

Posted by TranceSpeeder on Oct-25-2004 21:58:

indeed, im hoping to find somekind of rent place to maybe rent some first. but, yea i really want this shit now! lol

Posted by Vlad on Oct-25-2004 22:01:

If you rush it, they wont come.

Be patient, get something worth while.

I would have to buck the trend here and say start with anything.

I began my DJing career on a set of SoundLab DLP-1Rs which were belt driven along with a KAM Made2Fade mixer. Very cheap package but it worked.

A lot of people buy top spec Technics and Pioneer gear, have a play around then either loose interest or realise they arent that good. Having then wasted upwards of 1,000 + vinyl.

I only got a set of 1210's after 2 years of professional club work and learning with crap means if your faced with crap later you'll survive.

buy some numark tt200's or 500's $200/$300 & are well worth the price.

You could get that mixer...don't see any problems with it

Man you had the same setup as me, taught me alot, but there were many times I was gonna give up DJin and throw them out the window, it was never really any fun DJ on those.

Posted by Shemeck on Oct-26-2004 00:48:

trancespeeder do you want to buy my set??
Iam able to beatmach with it, and everything(well not everything but enough for beginners).
I want a 100USD for that set everything in good condition, and everything works just fine.

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=213945&highlight=%22gemini%22

why Am I selling?
b/c I got somthing high end - numark tt500, and DM06, - I consider this high end

Posted by TwoPlow on Oct-26-2004 01:12:

The longer you wait, the more you will appreciate when you get it. Buy the techs.

Posted by TranceSpeeder on Oct-26-2004 01:16:

for 100$ thats a nice start of what that guy is selling. how much is a system if i wait? 600$?

Posted by dj chex on Oct-26-2004 01:24:

Well, like me you could spend $400 for a whole package of crap. Then spend $6000-$8000 on vinyl, then realise how much more expensive vinyl is. Believe me, $400 on cheap crap won't be worth anything when you try to sell and would be a pain to use. If you shop around you may be able to find a used 1200 for around $200 and that would be a good start for your setup. Just remember, you get what you pay for.

Posted by tu_face on Oct-26-2004 08:32:

really, direct drive is a must. belt drive decks have so many disadvantages, and cheap direct drives are not much more expensive.

with a belt drive it:

*won't hold its pitch anywhere near as well
*will snap and you will gave to replace the belt, which is a pain in itself
*with age the belt wears and stretches, meaning that adjustments you have learnt go out of the window after a year or so
*will not react well to back-cueing, scratching, and manipulation during a mix.

i am all for learning on cheap decks (i did), it does in the long-run make you a better DJ. but honestly, go for direct drives, they will last you longer and they are much more enjoyable to use.

you get: WITH 9 ALBUMS Including:

50Cent, Nelly, Ray Luv, R Kelly, N.O.R.E., Hard Boyz, D12, Def Jam, Eminem
sounds nice dude!! heheh

on a more serious note i recomend u wait a while and get the good stuff. you dont have to go technics but there are cheaper options which still are better. djing is not cheap.

Posted by Exodus17 on Oct-26-2004 16:22:

another disadvantage to belt drives is that unless you are really gentile, the platter will tip when you press on the record, scratching is almost out of the question as when you try, it makes the needle bounce, also another problem i recently had was that since the platter isnt strudy, it skips because the angle of the spin isnt exactly flat on the deck

belt drives just feel cheap over all, they work, but dont expect the best performance

that mixer is almost the same as mine accept its 3in bigger and it has peak meters for the channels

you can find box sets that come with direct drives,

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=dj/search?c=6418

i own the gemsound package, not bad for beginners, but after about a year if youre still into it, you'll want to upgrade

Posted by TranceSpeeder on Oct-27-2004 03:05:

why much would be the cheapest cdjs that can scratch?

Posted by beats and beeps on Oct-27-2004 03:34:

dn-s3000 or cdj800, are the cheapest players that are good for scratching. The dn-s3000 would probably favourable if youre into turntablism, because of the spinning platter.

hows that package? better than the battle pack that everyone hates?

not very much, if any.

It all comes down to you get what you pay for.

EDIT: just realised that the mixer only has 2 band eqs. You can certainly learn using a mixer with 2 band eqs, but theres really no reason to. Theres enough cheap 3 band mixers out there.

these technics are also cheap but i mean, they look a little banged up!

Posted by Ken_Allen on Oct-30-2004 15:52:

I bet they still work fine too

Posted by TranceSpeeder on Oct-30-2004 16:01:

are technics that strong?

come to think of it, so your saying these beat up technics still work better than those crappy low end tables ive been thinking of getting?
