NICHOLAS BENNISON - Nov 20 - Northern Virginia/DC

http://www.nicholasbennison.com
NICHOLAS BENNISON's popularity rose through the mid to late 90s after performing powerful and technically brilliant sets at hundreds of events each year and mixing two of the US best selling Trance Global Nation CDs. Aside from boasting impressive sales numbers, TGN2 garnered rave reviews in the national press and was named one of the Top Twenty CDs of 1999 by Mixer magazine. Based on the success of TGN2, Nicholas was invited back to mix the forth CD in the series, second time round having full control over the track selection. TGN4 was released during 2000; a tougher and intelligent album representative of Nicholas true underground sound. To support the CDs, Nicholas headlined the Trance Global Nation Tour (featuring Jerry Bonham, D:Fuse, & Doran) and visited cities throughout North & South America, Canada and Asia. Nicholas third officially licensed CD, Crystal Vol.2, was released through AM Recordings in 2001 as another testament to his unique and uncompromising style.
As a producer today, Nicholas has crafted a powerful sound and his tracks are played by Sasha, John Digweed, Paul Van Dyk, Seb Fontaine, Christopher Lawrence, John 00 Fleming, Nick Warren, and Max Graham. This year alone, Nicholas' tracks have been licensed to Ferry Corstens Infinite Euphoria mix CD (Ministry of Sound), Marco Vs Combi:Nations (Universal Music) and played regularly on BBC Radio Ones Essential Mix (UK), Ministry Of Sound Radio (UK), Kiss FM (UK) and ID&T Radio (Holland). Nicholas also heads up his own Los Angeles based label, Propulsion Records, which has made a huge mark internationally with its unique sound. In addition to his regular output on Propulsion, Nicholas also has 12 releases on Duty Frees Intensive label (UK), Acting Out Records (Sweden), Source of Gravity/Gravitation (UK), and Looq (USA).
Nicholas performs at major events such as Nocturnal Wonderland, Together As One, Destiny, Spundae, Giant, Ra, La Boom and many more through North America and beyond. At Mass-Transit3, Nicholas will throw down an exclusive 3 hour set not to be missed."

As seen in the Washington Post:

We are STILL actively looking for djs to play at our Wednesday night events. Please come to any party and drop off a CD and talk to us.
This is a friendly, relaxed event, with great people and great music. We're taking a big chance booking a trance headliner in the suburbs, so I hope people come out to support us!
Bridges is located at:
10560 Main St.,
Fairfax, VA
Map/Directions
Im probably going to make the trip for this. Nicholas is one of my favorite producers / dj's. How far from Washington is Fairfax?
HAHAHAHAHHA
HAHAHAHHAHA
HAHAHAH
sorry I don't mean to laugh so hard..... and I'm laughing at the talent. I'm laughing at the location.
K imagine you live in Fairfax Virginia pretty much your whole life. And there is this bar/small ass dancefloor that some retard put at the bottom of a rundown buildin gin the middle of no where fairfax. Kinda like that Mulberry village of northern vA okay. HAHAHAHA... and then they call this place a club... HAHAHAHA
and its the only place for locals to go. And its small. And its filled with a bunch of retarded preppy 18 year olds and kids with fake ID's from the local highschool who think their cool, and fake ass rejects from the college down the street.....
HAHAHAHAH ---- that is where this even is being held at.. HAHAHAHAHAH
They need to change this location, I can't be around Fairfax (Running from tha police)

but don't get me wrong, I'll go to bridges for something nice.. I'm just laughing at the venue.

I hope he gets a gig at an established nice venue in the North East.
Hey, I have to say, I agree with you, it's kind of a dive, but I've been around long enough to remember when the legendary parties were all at complete shitholes and warehouses.
That said, because of the first two Mass Transit events (with Scott Henry and Charles Feelgood), they were able to buy a brand new sound system and redecorate the venue, and the crowd is COMPLETELY different at Mass Transit and the Wednesday night Transit parties than it is on their other nights.
We had Charles Feelgood last saturday, and the vibe was incredible. It was all party kids, not preppies at all.
We've all been around the DC scene for a long time, and we are close friends with the Buzz crew and other local promoters, and we're exclusively promoting underground music and local DJs.
Give it a chance. We are only doing this because we love the music and we love the parties. We're all big fans of Bennison's and play his tracks all the time, so this is a big deal for us, and we're taking a real chance booking someone with so little name recognition in DC.
------------------------
Btw, fairfax is about a half hour drive from DC, so it's very close.
And no, if you don't live in the DC area, I probably wouldn't recommend a road trip (how's that for honesty from a promoter), but if you're in the area, and vibe and music is more important than showing up at the hottest club in town, it's well worth going to.

since when was it a club? Its a bar. And this is coming from someone who frequented O'Tooles in Centreville and Shark Club. I hear nothing about good things about Transit and if im not mistaken, Empath opened for Tiesto at Nation this year so lets wish them the best of luck.
Yep, same empath that opened for Tiesto, as I like to tell every single new person that I meet...
I should print up business cards: "DJ Empath: Tiesto Opener (former)"
Okay, so people should remember that ultimatly the party is not about the venue, it's about the people and the music.
I've heard lots of people tell me that Transit was worth visiting, and as a result, today will be my first appearance at the party.
I hope to see some of you out and aboot at the next Mas Transit
1) What do you have in store for us at Mass-Transit3?
An energetic blend of progressive and tough and techy trance. Lots of new and unreleased tunes and probably a few favs from past years.
2) When / where was the last place you played on the east coast?
Its been a while... Last time I played in DC was a couple of years back at a club called Cloud 9.
3) With all of the recent press surrounding your latest releases (revention, slidestream / drivetrain mechanics), what's next for NB?
My next 12 release on Propulsion is Archetype with a special remix by Chris Cowie. Following that is an original track by Chris, Reeva, which I remixed. I also have forthcoming releases/remixes on Five AM, Source of Gravity, Gravitation and Inkfishs Acting Out label. In addition to my own releases I have a number of wicked tunes by other artists ready for release on Propulsion for the rest of 2004 and 2005.
4) Who has been the biggest influence on your style and passion for EDM?
All the producers whose tracks I have played over the years are my greatest source of inspiration. Of particular mention is Chris Cowie who wrote most of the Hook & Bellboy Recordings releases under a slew of different aliases. His sound was something I identified with right from the beginning. A decade later hes still pumping out special release after special release. I also have a lot of respect for Christopher Lawrence who has always championed the underground trance sound.
flint makes it over to, TA... sup
wasap
Hey its John C. If you want to hear some SICK progressive and trance, you owe it to yourself to come out! I will be laying down the hottest tunes I promise. Plus Bennison, NUFF SAID!
This sound intersting now
9 hours and counting
Hmmmm...definitely should be much better than say...going to see George Acosta @ Glow!
See you all @ Mass Transit!
:-)
see ya there
All I can about Mass Transit 3 is...wow! I'm so glad I went! The venue itself wasn't just some little hole in the wall. Most of the space at Bridges is taken up by the bar and the pool hall. However, there's a decent dance floor (about the size of the Rubik Room at Nation). Last but not least...the sound system and the lighting was proper!
As for the music...Flint and John C. tore it up with their sets! Last but not least...Nicholas Bennison was off the hook! Anyone who loves trance in the style of Christopher Lawrence would've loved this guy! Nothing but hard bangin' goodness...and flawless mixing!
Mad props to the Give Productions crew (Empath, Flint, and company) for a great night of trance music in northern Virginia! And one more thing...John C. is worth checking out!
Too bad for all the NoVA TAs who missed out on Mass Transit! You better not miss out on Mass Transit 4! Mark your calendars for December 18!

Mass Transit is a fucking joke.
I was there for Scott Henry a few months ago and the whole idea just did't make sense.
First off, the people who work there were unorganized and unprofessional (Example: I was charged $5 at the door by the trophy chick accepting the cash. About 3 minutes later, after I entered the venue, the "promoter" tracked me down in the bathroom to collect an additional $2.00. He told me that the girl up front had made a mistake and that it was $7.00.) The miserable fuck wasn't even humble about collecting. And yes, I was sure that it was the promoter/owner because he seemed to be making a worthless attempt to run things the whole night.
As a business owner, once the sale is made you shouldn't run after the customer to ask them for more money. As a human, realize that you made a mistake and move on.
Secondly, the venue is completely wrong for the event. On one side you have high school kids playing pool and the other side people grooving with glow sticks. Now, there is no problem with both, but at this point one has to ask themself what kind of atmosphere is this place attempting to create? Maybe I was expecting a little too much, but their was no consistent vibe in that place at all.
Thirdly, what the fuck was up with the bouncers? At the stage, there was a guy leaning on a speaker and some testosterone-pumped idiot got in the guy's face, briskly told him "get up, bitch" and walked back to his post like the robot that he is. For someone who seemed completely harmless, there was no need for the bouncer to act so belligerent.
The bottom line: You couldn't pay me to go back to Mass Transit. Not even if Tiesto were to spin there. The location is aweful, the owners/promoters are incompetent, and the staff, at least the bouncers, need to learn how to handle conflict in a more professional way. Once again, Fuck Mass Transit.
Wow - that really sucks you had such an aweful experience. The person that may have asked you for an additional $2 (big frikin deal) was the owner of the venue - not the promoter - and yes I agree he should have just let it slide - but he is learning. Mass-Transit1 was the first major event we held there and of course there would be bugs to work out. The feedback from everyone else we know that went there was that the vibe was incredible, the music is awesome, and it was just an overall fun night. This is not a super-glam-club - it is a small intimate venue where you can experience the artists up close. I talked with the owners about any security people attitudes and had 2 of the security guys replaced / fired. The pool tables most people think are really cool - especially since they are so far away from the dance floor - so you have that area for more of a social setting - or if you want to submerge yourself in the music - head to the dance floor and bar area.
So what did you think of Joey Muniz, Suneel, and Scott Henry's set that night? I thought they were incredible and so did everyone else. What about the people and the vibe? Wasn't it so cool how pretty much everyone knew each other? Wasn't it cool how lara and becky run around passing out free glow stuff?
Sometimes when you read review after review of positiveness, and then another review that is all negativity - you have to wonder why. I hope you reconsider your decision and come back for MT4 w/ Joshua Ryan, Jon Deke, Empath, and Justin Peake. If you do come back out I'll buy you a drink to make up for any inconveniences you may have suffered.
Peace,
Andrew
PS - its a 21+ event so no high school kids are there.
The situation is that the we got the venue first, and we're trying to do the best event that we can there. Believe me, I'd prefer to be somewhere else. But for what it is, I think it's pretty good.
