this is only a userid number, this does not reflect how many users are actually still registered, as there are users with permanent bans, etc.

but yeah, only 100 or so to go! if someone told me 4 years ago that this site would have 40,000 members by the end of '04 i would have thought they were demented.

I thought once you're registered, you're always registered.. Is the userID and total number of registered members THAT far off? I mean user ID # 41,002 is 1,002 away from 40,000 registered members.

It's not about how many are 'active' - in fact, this community has a greater % of active users than most - simply because there are few barriers to entry and there is little that you gain by registering - thus - those that do, do so of their own free will - and not cuz they want to get perks - like the majority of other sites do.
