3 Beat Records, Above the Sky, Hard to Find Records - Need advice

Hey guys,

I live in New York City. These 3 record stores:

3 Beat Records
Above the Sky
Hard to Find Records

Are all from the United Kingdom. They have records that I am looking for. Are they reputable shops? I don't want to get scammed.

Thanks!

i think 3beat is kind of expensive, but you can download mp3's which is pretty cool. As far as I know it's legit. I'm not sure about the others.

For what I've heard, HTFR have quite a bad rep... make a search about it on the DJ forum and you'll notice why. As for 3beat, I hate them, I ordered 4 records once and they sent them as they get them but they'll cover added shipping for that, and one of the records took them 4 months to send, when it got in here I already had it. Oh, and lousy assistance too, took them forever to reply my e-mails and sometimes never did. I wonder how they got prizes for assistance, well, maybe I just had bad luck... but I'll never buy from them again you can always visit the DJ forum and check the sticky DJ thread for dodgy online record stores...

dont shop Hard To Find Records unless you :

a) dont mind waiting about a month for you purchase
2) like fingerprints, scuffs and scratches on your vinyl
d) don't mind an extra charge on your credit or bank card that shouldnt be there
5) are into cheeky bootlegs and mashups that those wags made themselves

above the sky is delish and like someone mentioned earlier, 3 beat is pricey but quality.

i wouldnt recommend htfr they are wank. other 2 are fine tho 3 beat is expensive i think.

also check out

www.juno.co.uk
www.chemical-records.co.uk

all reputable companies

3 beat are prettyupfront but dont update their database, so you never know whether a record is in stock or not..so like someone has said you either end up waiting for records or you get them within a week, just depends how quick you are.

juno and chemical records are better only show whats in stock
also plastic fantastic and tuneinn...both tell you whats in stock and get different tunes from chemical and juno.

Hey guys,

Thanks for your awesome feed back. I tried to use the dodgy record shop section but it was too difficult to search. I wish there was search text capability in TA for just music and record stores.

Thanks!

top of the tree- faultless:
www.Chemical records.com
www.beta.juno.co.uk

Htfr... erm if you are really desperate for something yes go for it.Expect it to be a dodgy repress or bootleg

3beat- rude scousers who get the records sent fast if they can be assed

i've never had any proplems with HTFR expet their price ,i find them expensive , Dancegrooves is a good place to shop although their inventory is quite small i think , chemical records is also a prime store.

Hey,

Just wanna let you know that i order from www.abovethesky.com on a very regular basis. They are great the only problem i have ever had was that they sent me two of one of the records i orderd, but they didnt charge me for it and they said i could keep it.

these are who i order from and have never had problems
www.abovethesky.com
www.dotvinyl.com

i've orderedf rom chemical, above the sky and juno, and have had no problem with any of them.

Have also dealt with HTFR a few times, and have had no probs with quality/service either, although quite a few seem to have had. My only downer about them is they are quite expensive

Nothing is avaliable in the States you guys get everything 6-7 months before even our "biggest" record stores thats why i order from the UK for Trance records...

But iv ordered from Abovethesky once or twice... wasnt bad at all i must say... would order from them again if i had money for more records, just blew most of it on me girl friend for x-mas bought her a whole bunch of M.I.K.E. and Push, sence thats like her favorite Trance Artist at the moment...

Never EVER order from Dotvinyl. Even though they guarantee everything in stock it's a false promise. I ordered a tune from them in May, they charged me for it but didn't send it. Then they didn't answer my emails, the phone numbers provided on the website are invalid and are never answered, and I only got a refund 4 months later after hounding Trading Standards in Hertfordshire to pay them a visit. So far as I'm concerned, being charged for something you don't receive is theft, plain and simple. Avoid them like the plague.

Reputable stores are Juno, Chemical, and I've never had any trouble from UK Dance Records either. Their weekly email is excellent. Alternately, try Vinyl Warning in Australia.

Ahh, I been buying stuff from US as price and availability has been much better for me. But as for new tunes, I'm only just getting back into the market, so I am not up on what new stuff is good, etc... for rare or hard to find stuff I buy worldwide, but states is best on prices by far.
