What do u think of the producer: 'watergate'?

Iam suprised watergate isn't talked about on tranceaddict. Personally i think 'heart of asia' and 'infinity' were amazing! if u havn't heard infinity yet i reccomend u dl it. So....what do u think!?

Posted by conspiracy on Oct-12-2001 14:41:

Thumbs down hmm...

i'm not realy a fan of watergate... in my opinion, there are to less pumpin' basses in there...
but old scoolfirends of me think it's great...

my soundstyle is progressive, so i think watergate isn't for me

Posted by trancaholic on Oct-12-2001 14:57:

I like his work as DJ Quicksilver better. Haven't heard Infinity yet, but Heart of Asia really didn't do it for me.

i like the des mitchell remix of heart of asia...i haven't heard infinity yet...i don't like dj quicksilver tunes that much

Watergate...

Personally i think Watergate / DJ Quicksilver produces cheesy shite. I think i heard one DJ refer to this sort of stuff as "cartoon trance"! I really try to avoid this kind of musik at all costs...

Oh what a suprise! someome calls dj quicksilver/watergate cheese! and why? not because its bad or cheesey because it got into the charts! just think of all the producers that would be cheese if everyone called chart stuff cheese...

M.I.K.E aka Push
System-F
Gouryella
DJ tiesto
Rank 1
Robert miles

and LOADZ more! IMO cheese is only cheese when it sounds cheesy or has been overplayed too much, not because of the producer, there are many producers ot there that get labelled as cheese regardless of how good their songs are cuz ppl just don't wanna know. Cheese is just for arrogant ppl who can't take that other ppls tastes in music are different to their own. and 'cheese' as you call it will always be there so you all might as well get used to it. Iam not a cheeseaddict by an means. I just get fed up of this whole arrogancy of labeling trance as either good or 'cheese.'

Posted by Orbital on Oct-12-2001 21:34:

Cheese!

Why is it arrogant to label something as cheese, which is really just a euphemism for shite musik with obvious synths and buildups, etc? If you think Gouryella and Tiesto et al are cheesy shite your entitled to that view. I've heard it said that many/some DJ's turn their noses up at Tiesto/Ferry Corsten.

It's not arrogant to label a particular brand of music as shite *although* i think there often is a certain snobbery about it. I personally think that Watergate/DJ Quicksilver is more popular or noticeable then Tiesto/Push/etc because the music has a more commercial sounding feel to it then any of the music produced by these other artists and this appeals to more people, like all commercial sounds.

That doesn't a priori mean that because the music itself is popular that it's crap but i think in this case most people who are really into their dance musik would turn their noses up at the likes of Watergate. All of the friends who i know that are into their Dance Music would probably turn their noses up at DJ Quicksilver for the same reason i would. It's overly commercial sounding cheesy shite. I hate the stuff.

Posted by Crazy Serb on Oct-12-2001 23:24:

Well, too bad you hate that type of music, since I actually loved (and still do to a certain degree) Dj Quicksilver and his tracks a few years back (remember Bellissima, Free, Ameno, etc...)

Some of those tracks were featured on the "best trance anthems" CDs and compilations along with PVD's tunes and tons of other famous producers/DJs... that just tells me that they were solid tracks.

And if you guys think Dj Quicksilver's songs were overplayed, too commercial or whatever, remember Darude and Sandstorm, one of the most popular songs at raves last year (Sensation 2000, Mayday 2000, etc.), and ask yourself how many times have you heard that song on the radio...

Cheers from Toronto!

Although they do have a bit of a commercial sound to it, i still like watergate, the melodies are very catchy.

Dude, I'm here in Toronto and someone did a bootleg with female vocals (it was labeled as Kylie Minogue but its not, I think its Donna Williams or something), anyways they put those vocals over Rank 1 - Airwave, and it was pumped all over the radio here. You probably heard of it, it was called true love never dies.

Rank 1 still rocks, regardless of their airplay...I wasn't impressed with "The Mystery" but Such is Life and Straight To The Point were great!

Cheeze is CHEEZE

I think Quicksilver has done some cheeze tunes...that Shaggy thing is horrible. My buddy got a chance to see him live in Poland and said he was a decent DJ. Ameno was OK...not too hot though.

Cheeze and commercial are 2 different things...the reaosn I dislike most commercial stuff is because I prefer to cater to a crowd who enjoys and understand the music, because they like it, not just because its on the radio. Radio here sucks, its all hurting eurodance.

Posted by Orbital on Oct-13-2001 07:37:

I stand corrected!

Actually in all fairness i didn't mind Heart OF Asia and at the time i thought the Des Mitchell Remix was quite good. It's not one of those tracks that get's me excited but it wasn't as bad as say "Bellisima" (SP?) or "I have A dream".

Posted by Thierry on Oct-13-2001 08:06:

Well I like Heart of Asia a lot. I didn't know Watergate was DJ Quicksilver, especially since I like the Quicksilver remix of Heart of Asia the best. I like Watergate better than Quicksilver but he is good regardless. It might be on the more commercial side of trance, but i think it's still quality most of the time. Cheers.

Posted by tu_face on Oct-13-2001 09:30:

Some quicksilver stuff is ok... i.e. ameno was class (bar the cheezy bit in the middle which i nicely edited out)... heart of asia was poo though... it took James Holden to make it good his remix of heart of asia is pretty nifty
