Popsikle 6 - San Francisco - Impressions
OK, way too exhausted to write a long thing now....but will sum it up with this...
FUCKING AWESOME. Fuck Monster Massive. Fuck Together As One. It blowed away both of them. Oceanlab Live PA was faaarrr better than I ever though. I was even wondering if Justine was perhaps lip synching, but I never saw her off her words once, not even the slightest. Either she is the best lip singer or she is just really good live.
Lange, wow, was very impressed.
Now Above & Beyond, OMG!!!!!!!!!! Far harder, faster, and better than I ever expected. Yes, they played a lot of progressive trance, but they played it good and hard and fast. Had the whole place going nuts. Thousands of people jumping up and down at once.
The location of the party was great! The sound was awesome for a rented out space. Only a couple of small piles (it was 18+, so not 250 difference e-tard piles like you see at Monster Massive or Together As One), and towards the end of the night, no one was really sitting down.
Anyhow, just a awesome time. Was better than I expected. I am sore from this experience, and I'm going out tomorrow night.
Pictures later, if they came out well.
Dave
Oceanlab was awesome. I'd kill to have the chance to relive that experience. Hey Dave were you there holding a camcorder in the very front with a buddy that was doing the same?
Amazing Party!!!! I was in the TOWER Of Trance all Night.. Great party
Great Vibe and it even went pass 30 minutes so Above and beyond got to play a full 2 hrs... Lights and Sound were just perfect. Dave nice custome! haha saw your face all painted! anyways GREAT PARTY can not wait for February 12, 2005! That will probably be POPSICLE's LOVE Festival.

Well, here goes my review of the night-
First off, I gotta thank Jeff for being able to pick me up near people's park, and taking me to alemeda, back to berkeley and etc. Oh and the digging for $$$ on earbuds was awesome
.
We got there at 10. Dyloot i think was playing some weird cybertrance stuff that was somehwat dancable to. The suddenly, he drops white room then callokain back to back, also jukeboxing in some weird remix of carte blanche. I expected him to be absolute crap, but he was actually quite alright.
SO next came Oceanlab's live PA. I first saw justine, then i saw that guy in the yellow shirt weilding a guitar...it was insane. Needless to say, the live PA was amazing, and i remebered pretty much all the lyrics to the songs. Whats important about this PA is that they normally sound pretty bad (like mavi at TIC) but i didnt hear any problems heere.
Finally came A&B. THeir set started off kinda slow, then more stuff started coming in. I was hoping to hear surrender, but instead they chose to play by fav A&B production, their remix of madonna. I was almost about to weep! Overall their set was amazing!
If it werent for the two FOBs smoking pot in front and back of me, it would have been a perfect night. included below are my very best pix, and imo my 2 best ones, as a teaser
-phase AKA derek
PS: thanks peter for letting me stay in jackson!

man I wasn't expecting much from Oceanlab Live PA, I was actually kinda worried Justine would sound terrible but I was totally wrong, she was AMAZING
and for a while I was also wondering if Justine was lip-syncing just as Dave had said cuz she sounded so good. In the end I don't think she was lip-syncing, she was just totally on and close to perfect.
Oceanlab was soooooo amazing, their performance tops anything i've ever seen so far and I'm sure it'll be hard to beat.
Oceanlab definately made this my fav Skills event, and an experience I'll never forget from the moment I heard "Sunday, sunrise..."
I believe this was the tracklist
Oceanlab - Beautiful Together (Original Mix)
Oceanlab - Clear Blue Water (Original Mix)
Oceanlab - Sky Falls Down (Original Mix)
Oceanlab - Satellite (Original Mix)
nice pics Derek
where were u in relation to the stage Dave? we were in the front and center, 2nd row from the stage
Amazing party I was up in the very front row from Dyloot till A&B.. So yeah I didnt wanna miss Oceanlab + Justine live so I got a real close up. I think she was lip-sync'ing cuzz I caught one phrase where she opened her mouth but no words came out of the speakers and she looked back at one of the A&B crew then caught on, she came in 8 beats early =\ Of course I could be wrong, but nevertheless it was damn amazing. Great crowd. Personally I enjoyed Lange's set the most out of that night, I also really liked how he interacted with the crowd so much, he even came around the front to shake everyones hand after his set. My highlight would be when A&B threw on "Jump the next train". One thing that let me down was I didnt hear any probspot tracks
maybe I was browsing other rooms if anyone else heard any.. Good stuff, legs are sore, hearing is temporarily muffled. But i'd still do it again
ROAR!!
My pics are here

hm I don't remember seeing u Dave, and I'm sure i woulda remembered u if u looked like that haha, nice makeup
i think i got in some of ur photos tho
I thought A & B was boring and repititive. Oceanlab and Lange were great and Jason's set was wonderful.

Damn, the lighting looks sick.
It was OK, but it only looked impressive if you were near the front. The lasers just weren't big enough overall, IMO. I always heard amazing things about the lighting and lasers at the big Skills events, but I wasn't hugely impressed.
What _was_ nice about the lasers, though, is the colors. Not just the basic green we always see. :-p
Anyone who thought A&B was boring needs to get into today's trance and its style...because what they play is what is essentially popular these days. Guess people still want all epic trance at the big events...I would have love some epic trance, but at the same time, I love progressive trance so no complaints here.

| Originally posted by djkyo HAHAHA what the hell are you talking about above and beyond could do a better job? you are crazy they had an awesome set, and how can you say dyloot had the best set when all hes tunes are old and still playing that cyber-trance shit you should really spend some more time listening to real trance and you will know what i mean.... |

I still loved their sets, they were all wonderful and I had fun. I think my hearing has recovered now
By the way I'm curious which one is Jono Grant, and which one is Paavo Siljamaki, and which one is Tony McGuinness? I've only seen two guys one younger dude in the Anjunabeats T-shirt, one older fellow in a yellow T-shirt, and a mysterious buzzcut looking dude that was flashing and pointing to the words on his T-shirt "I love Pussy!" Hmm some other fellows backstage but I've never seen pictures of them up close to recognize faces.

| Originally posted by DaveT Yeah, if you do a little comparing, you will notice that they clearly played some harder tracks and faster overall more than they usualy. A&B is somewhat known for playing VERY SOFT progressive, and they didn't play the progressive tracks softely at all. People need to stop eating their own words. ![]() I thought Dyloot's set was AWESOME, but thought Lange had the most creative set and A&B had the most solid set, IMO. And it goes back to what djkyo set about Dyloot. He did play a lot of old tracks. |
DIE MOTHA****** DIE.
*STAB STAB STAB*

Did anyone catch PVD at 1015 ?
I gotta agree with C3sharp on this one. A & B's track did sound mostly the same. Who cares how old or new the tracks are if it gets the crowd going and people are enjoying it then isn't that the whole point? I must have come in with high expectations from A & B but they just didn't meet them. Lange, Oceanlab and Dyloot was all very good and really had me dancing.
To those who were saying cyber-trance is shit i'm sorry for you because there are some truly beautiful cyber trance tracks that you wil never hear because your too stuck in your preferances.
