Be Cool! Bush Supporters: Why do you Support Him?

I'm not happy with the results, but I'll admit Bush won. I'm not even especially looking to debate this, but I would just like to know why you support Bush so much other than that you believe he is strong against terrorism? The only other topics that I've seen come up are that Kerry was a weak candidate and in some areas there are moral issues that people support Bush on.

Considering the moral issues, like gay marriage, regard such a small fraction of the country, say Osama bin Laden never happened and someone like Barack Obama were the Democratic nominee: Would you still vote for Bush and specifically why? Thank you for your responses.

Posted by wolverine16 on Nov-03-2004 17:36:

Any responses? Maybe I should rephrase this. If you supported Bush in 2000, prior to the war on terror, what did you like about him?

What many fail to understand is that it is useless to engage in this type of discussion. Of course opinions will be exchanged but that's it. The purpose of this thread, and of some others, is to challange the thoughts of Bush supporters and maybe end up insulting them along with the president. It's not new. Just move along.

his optimism.

his values.

his honesty.

his conviction.

all that, and i'm not brainwashed. i'm old enough to see through the bullshit.

he's not wrong about Iraq.

this economy is kicking more ass ever.

you haven't lost your civil rights.

you are the one thats been mislead. the liberal agenda in this country wants a European model and was willing to say, do, and pay any amount of money to get it done.

they failed because they underestimated the people's values, not because they overestimated the liberal base.

With all due respect, I don't believe someone is misled because they have concerns about healthcare, education, social security, worker's rights, the environment and numerous other issues.

My point for this thread was that shouldn't we be finding a way to improve upon these things in addition to protecting the country?

I don't think that these things should be classified by being liberal or conservative.

concerns and desire to improve these things does not mean the government should be funding them. I think this is also a major concern of Republicans. Why should their tax dollars improve the life of someone who does not work?

Jesus never said a thing about gay marriage

Does it matter? or how does it concern you? should I have voted the same way as you?

Like I said, Don't Like America and what it stands for...pack your bags and head to Paris or TORA BORA.

The majority of the USA won't miss you

I find this so depressing that the next leader of the Free World is determined because of these issues. I am not picking on you, I think it is obvious that these are the issues that brought out the "GOP Base" that won Bush the election.

Somewhat agree with this. While I think that gay marriage should be legislated on some level, I dont think Government should play any role in the abortion issue. This is because too many people's moral beliefs are incorporated into their decision, and a society based on reason is compromised.

Can I ask questions? Can I wish to understand why people express certain opinions?

If you want to ask me why I have certain opinions on certain topics, by all means ask away. I'm sure you obviously don't care though, so I'm not worried about it.

I probably would be safer in Tora Bora, anyways. George W. 'is not too concerned' about Osama bin Laden anymore.

I would say that the issues I mentioned affect working people too. And keep in mind most people who are in poverty also have jobs. If you don't think that government is the best way to help with these problems, that is respectable. What do you think should be done in lieu of the government? Also I think that the Bush administration strays from traditional conservatism, in that they are using our tax dollars as well, such as the $140 billion corporate tax break that was just given.

i don't understand why this motivates voters. if someone does this, it doesn't affect me. if gays get married, or someone gets an abortion, how does it affect third persons?

i'm not saying that everyone should agree. i don't understand why it matters to joe schmoe, that someone gets an abortion or that gays get married. what skin is off their back if someone does this. this is not a liberatarian position. i though conservativeswanted government out of their lives, and not intruding on their personal freedoms. this just doesn't make sense to me.

Be Cool!

And as far as abortion, I can understand how people can see it as being against their beliefs. A large consideration of the Roe vs. Wade case was that abortions were occuring despite prohibitions against it and consequently they were being performed under unsafe and unsanitary conditions.

I think if you asked pro-choice and anti-abortion supporters how many abortions they would like to see occur, you would have a consensus at 0. No one wants to see it happen, but I think we need to start looking at why it happens and try to reduce the causes to decrease the number. This is because sadly it will still occur in certain cases even if it is made illegal and it will come at the risk of the mother's health.

We should be looking at improved healthcare plans for mothers, adoption, more available childcare so mothers can work, etc. Keep in mind that it is important that once a child is born that we need to make sure it grows up in a healthy environment as well, because neglect and child abuse, among other problems, must be dealt with, especially if abortion were to be banned.

I havent posted on this board in quite some time because of the mentality of some of the people here. However, this thread intrigued me so I decided to tell you why I voted for Bush.

First off it has nothing to do with me liking him. Although I recently changed my party affiliation to Republican I would consider myself a very moderate Republican. I disagree with Bushs policies on stem cell research, gay rights, and drug laws just to name a few. I fully believe in stem cell research, I am totally against the Defense of Marriage Act, which Clinton signed by the way. At the end of the day Marriage is just a word, it has nothing to do with the moral fabric of our country. I also believe almost all drugs should be legalized and regulated by the government.

However, unlike most people I decided not to get conned into the ANYBODY BUT BUSH mentality, this has to be the most ignorant self-absorbed war cry Ive ever heard uttered. So I asked myself one question, do I vote for Kerry even though he is a far cry from whom I want as the president of the United States of America?

In searching for my answer I often wondered how people could support a man like Kerry just to defeat a man like Bush. I wanted these people to identify in John Kerry something that hasnt already failed us with Bush. The bottom line is you cant! I feel no more confident in John Kerrys horrendous 20-year voting record in the Senate than I do with Bush and some of his policies.

So Im still posed with the same question do I vote for Kerry to get Bush out of office, even though I dont agree with John Kerrys policies or lack thereof. If you answer yes then what happens when 2008 comes around and John Kerry, hated as much as Bush ever was, is running for re-election?

With Bush at least you know where you stand. After all the stumping and debates I still didnt know where exactly Kerry stood on some very key issues or even how he planed on implementing them. In the end my answer had to be a resounding NO to John Kerry not necessarily a YES to Bush.

well thats the difference between liberalism and conservatism

conservatism ( P ) Pronunciation Key (kn-srv-tzm)

2. A political philosophy or attitude emphasizing respect for traditional institutions, distrust of government activism, and opposition to sudden change in the established order.
3. The principles and policies of the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom or of the Progressive Conservative Party in Canada.
4. Caution or moderation, as in behavior or outlook

liberal ( P ) Pronunciation Key (lbr-l, lbrl)
adj.

1. Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
2. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.

tradition vs tolerance. which would you like to impose? choose your party accordingly

Do you know what i find absolutely hilarious? The fact that conservatives believe in a limited government, yet they feel compelled to stay in everybody else's business.

"I'm a conservative, I want a limited government, but we need to ban gay marriage, ban abortion, and ban stem cell research."

Backwards hypocrites if there ever were any.

I don't understand how you can have a debate between an affected party and an unaffected party. The Israel vs Palestine thing makes sense, both sides are affected by the decision. However, HOW is the average conservative man affected in any way by gays getting marriage, or a couple deciding to have an abortion? How can they feel so strongly about what OTHER people do with their lives when it really is none of their business.

There are some people that I will never understand.

Not only that it's other peoples' lives, the percentage of gay people in this country is so small and those that would marry is even smaller. Why spend so much time even proposing an Amendment against it?

The only Amendment made to the Constitution that ever took away the rights of people was prohibition, and even that was repealed.
