It's not good for exports, which is a pretty big chunk of the economy.
Edit: Not to mention all the extra leakages incurred. e.g. Trips to Hawaii.

Time to ask for a raise.

Hahaha...actually I agree with Slag it's NOT GOOD NEWS...it's good news for us as consumer cause we can get cheaper exports but it's really bad in a way for our economy cause everyone from the US that does business in Canada (and there's A LOT - movies is a prime example) loses all the incentive to do so since our dollar is so high.

So in a way...WOHOO...and at the same time...SHIT...not sure really if it's good or bad but i'm seing a lof of bad....many people could be losing jobs soon...

maybe canada will start looking for other main countries to export too ... instead of having all our eggs in one basket

canadian companies are gonna losing there price advantage on amaerican companies

It's a mighty big basket though...not to mention the cheapest to ship to

talking about shipping...

the Chinese export so much to Canada, that many boats are charging crazy low fees in order to fill their boats on their trip back to China.

For example: China -> middle of Quebec (coming from Vancouver) is 5000 US$ / container

middle of quebec -> China (going from Vancouver) is 1200 US$ / container

these prices include shipping by rail to/from Vancouver.

Canadians should export to China (easier said than done)

The problem is, other countries will try to avoid importing from Canada as well since it's more expensive than it has been in the past. It's not just the US that is affected.

83.55 and climbing.

it now costs $1.19 for a US dollar

Quite the difference from $1.68 2 years ago
