Well it's not exactly new, but the two of you are still obnoxious.

People in large cities tend to not have the same ideals of people in the suburbs or rural areas. If you look state by state in the ones lost bybush you will notice that Kerry wins in large cities and Bush in suburbs and rural areas. Different people associate with different candidates.

For example:
Illinois
Kerry 55%
Bush 45%
Kerrr won Chicago area counties which was alone enough to win the state

Oregon
Kerry 52%
Bush 48%
Kerry won Portland which carried the state.

Washington
Kerry 53%
Bush 46%
Kerry won Seattle counties which carried the state.

Minnesota
Kerry 51%
Bush 48%
Kerry won Twin cities area which carried the state

California
Kerry 55%
Bush 44%
Kerry won Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Franciso areas which carried the state.

Michigan
Kerry 51%
Bush 48%
Kerry won Detroit which carried the state

New York
Kerry 58%
Bush 40%
Kerry won new york city which carried the state

you get the idea. Kerry is from a big city, boston, he has ideals which appeal to those in big cities. Bush is seen more as the average guy, appealing to the rest of the nation. CNN has all the well done flash maps to view.

Have you ever even been outside of your house? The irony is that when you make claims that rural people are un-educated and close minded, it is you who ends up appearing close minded.

Hell, can you even cite any factual statistics that say only smart people live in big cities, and conversely, only dumb, uneducated people live outside of these big cities? Since when does a person's geographic location/preference determine their intelligence?

i have lived booth in big cities and rural areas, and i must say that people in rural areas are generally less caring about the rest of the world, also it feels like they are duber. I can only base that on my own experience tho.

So IQ may mean you're smart, but that doesnt help you on the job.

Whether it be president, accountant, teacher, or even a truck driver.

There are plenty of smart people who float through life not realizing their potential and achieving what they truly can. Now thats sadder than having a low IQ.

Posted by State of Matter on Nov-04-2004 22:45:

People in rural areas tend to assume rural jobs. Sure you've got the doctors and lawyers and what have you but there are a lot more traditional or agricultural jobs in the rural areas than there are in the urban areas. These jobs don't require a college education, and therefore less people end up actually going to college. I'm not saying nobody in the south goes to college or anything close to that, but it makes sense that those in rural areas would not need a college degree as much as say somebody living in Manhattan, and thus they don't have the same level of education.

That Map is hilarious though.

you still don't understand? the Yankees are the New York, the Mass, the New England crowd, which happen to be at the top of that great IQ scale.

Just a wild guess, Iran ranks half that of Mississippi heh?

what's the relevance of that, be it true or not, to this discussion about the state's avrg iq and election results?

Well Iran did endorse Bush for President too! So maybe their government does have an IQ equal to the people of Mississippi!

Iran Endorses Bush

I went a bit off on the comment.. but it was a more general picture. It is obvious that the professional people live in cities, and not on the rural, hence there's nothing there for them in offer. This rural people live in small towns, where the outside news are not even local.. but more like something you could get through cable channels. With this in mind, this people tend to live a bit less stressed and disconnected from the rest of the world.. and tend to get fed only through what they are told, the local newspapers, religious friends, or FOX.. they also tend to be very traditional and conservative at heart.. hence the strong republican strong-hold.

This people need some serious exposure to what's really happening though.

And no, I have not lived, but I've vacationed on very rural areas for months, where I do have family living ( Utah ) .. and is very much like that.

and these people who happen to be at the top IQ voted Kerry instead of bush...what does that explain? are you implying that smart people vote kerry ?

Being that they are living in rural areas and are dependent on information that is 3 weeks old to stay abreast of world affairs, wouldn't they likely have less access to advanced technologies like Cable TV? I mean, there are probably tons of 'em who still have a TV with a rabbit ear antenna--I mean since they're poor & all(now why aren't they pissed that Dubya only cares for the rich?)--and therefore only get Network television. You know, like ABC, CBS, and NBC(and maybe Springer if they're lucky!)? I mean they're prolly just watchin' 60 Minutes with Dan Rather. What's all this new-fangled Fox News cable mumbo-jumbo?

The real crux of this point is, why do you think that you are so much more important than anyone else in this country when it comes to having an opinion? Your vote counts the same as theirs, and your superiority complex bleeds arrogance. It's like being racist, dude.

I live in one of the top 10 largest metropolitan cities in the country and I voted for George Bush. Go figure.

You're wrong.
Within the US, Yankees is term used to refer to northeasterners. In the context of this discussion though, Yankees refers to Americans. For instance, when the US fought in Vietnam and the Vietnameese yelled "Yankees go home!", they were not saying "Northeasterners, go home". Your misinterpretation only validates his original comment.

Your pathetic theory completely misses one of the largest voter dynamics in America. The suburbs. Not urban, very professional, highly educated, often well-traveled, and Republican.

Posted by smokeape on Nov-05-2004 01:44:

Yep, us rednecks like Bush.
Those smart Yankees voted for Kerry, but us dumb southerners sure carried the election for Bush. Now ain't that a hoot!

in the context of the WHOLE discussion i'm right, as mr. King is a Bush hater. His comments calling certain Americans "stupid" were aimed at the Bush supporters, yet he refers to them as "stupid yankees". All i did was make the distinction which you concur with above:

quote:
Yankees is term used to refer to northeasterners

these northeasterners voted Kerry. mr. King is confused.

Isn't that chart a hoax? Just like in the year 2000?

Anyways, the range of IQs is too large. 85-115? Probably more like 90-105.

Museum of Hoaxes

Those numbers are made up, sir.

Explanation of IQ scores

Anyways.. IQ isn't really a measure of intelligence, but rather of academic intelligence.
