Forward Progress Fridays @ Eli's Cribb, RIP
It's been inevitable for some time now, and we had a good run, but it's time to say goodbye to Forward Progress Fridays. It's official. Last Friday was the last time that we'll be enjoying a straight-beat night (with the exception of what Andy Hughes throws down at Sunday School at Thee Grotto) at either Thee Grotto or Eli's Cribb. It just doesn't have the draw necessary to keep the place going, at least on weekends.
Eli is a good friend of mine, so he tried to let me keep the night as long as possible on the chance that it might catch on, but we couldn't make it happen. However, I'm very thankful for all of the support from everyone here at SceneOrlando, especially.
I would like to personally thank all of my guests, including Andy Hughes, Solario, DB Grebey, Tim Correy, Roman, Seth Vogt, Phillip Morrison, Dave Cannalte, Jaren Skinner, Law, James Dunham, Erien, JasonD, Turbulence, Mike Boen, Buckner and Sean Gruv for helping me to make the night a success, which it always was for me, regardless of numbers. The vibe was always on point, and everybody there always had a good time.
I also want to apologize to Chris Marchese, Jared, Josh Wickham and Happ-E Killer for being unable to fulfill my promises to have all of you play at FPF. I looked forward to playing sets next to all of you, and perhaps we'll see opportunities to follow through in the future.
If I forgot anyone here, please accept my apologies. I'll look back on FPF with fond memories. Thank you for all of them. This night was a very good experience for me.

Booooooo!!!!!
I think one of the major reasons for that is the 21+ rule.
Wow... unfortunate news.
What will they play up in that place now, rap? *puke*
I gotta agree with Stan, 18+ woulda helped out, but I guess the owner felt the it wasn't worth the additional cost. Sucks all the restrictive laws regarding night clubs... blame it on W!
The place needs a dance floor too since the way it's set up it's really nothing more than a bar.
Well I had a fun whenever I stopped by there was always great music, thanks for having me play that one night too.
You're welcome, James. It was great having you play up there.
As far as the venue goes, or any venue downtown, I agree in general about the 18+ thing. You'll be hard pressed to find venues in Orlando that are 18+. There are very few, and even those are usually only on special occasion, and most of them aren't underground at all. The problem you get into with playing dance music is its tendency to attract scrutiny to venues who play it. Because of this, you'll have a lot more undercover cops going into bars who aren't 21, just looking for a reason to shut a place down. Small places can't afford to take chances. This is probably a good part of why the scene sucks so much downtown... that and the 3am thing.
As far as Eli's goes, specifically, the two biggest hurts were that the whole corner is predominantly breakbeat, and yeah, people need a dancefloor and some space for prog. For some reason, breaks people can dance in a broom closet, if necessary... go figure.
Anyway James, I'd love to have you on the show again sometime if you want to play on Pulseradio again. I also might have some other stuff lined up that you might be interested in, but that may take a few months to pan out. Thanks for your support man.
