That's the boxed version price. As I understand it, the download versions will still be considerably cheaper.

I can't quite get over the size of Mike Oldfield's monitor in that image...

Will the upgrade be free to existing owners?

Posted by DJ Coleman on Nov-07-2004 05:23:

Yes. Its a free upgrade.

Here is something I got on the FL Studio Forums.

What is New in FL Studio 5

This is a list of the important new features in FL Studio 5. For a complete list of new features (and bugfixes) in this and older FL Studio releases, please check WhatsNew.doc in the FL Studio root folder.

If you have created projects in earlier releases of FL Studio (and FruityLoops), please be sure to check the Compatibility with Older Projects page.

Time-Stretching in Audio Tracks and Sampler

* FL Studio features the high quality ZPlane Elastique time-stretching technology. Tonal, drums, slices and resample time-stretching are available.
* Sampler and Audio Clips support time-stretching (resizing audio clips stretches them in time).

Automation Clip & Improved Audio Clips

* Brand new Automation Clips added to the Playlist. Each clip supports a spline-based envelope and an LFO unit.
* Added option to trim audio clip parts outside playlist selection.

Improved Recording

* Added loop recording/overdub ability.
* Audio recording can now be undone.
* Right-click arm a Mixer track for a quick default name.
* Ability to leave tracks armed after recording.
* Selecting an ASIO input arms the track automatically.

New Plugins:

* FPC - FL Studio MPC, a new self-contained drum machine plugin.
* WaveShaper - Graph based distortion with supersampling.
* Video Player - Synchronized playback of video content inside FL Studio.

Improved Plugins

* Granulizer is vastly improved (supports transients, new key-to modes).
* Sytrus adds global envelopes, new curve types and more.
* Fruity Slicer is improved to support the new slicing engine & time stretching capabilities; FL Studio and Slicer load ReCycle Loop Files.
* DrumSynth Live now supports up to 120 patches at once.

New Tools

* New powerful Arpeggiator tool in piano roll.
* New Drum Flam tool in the Piano Roll.
* Note legato and Articulation tool in the Piano Roll.
* Brush tool added to the Event Editor.

Other New Features

* New realtime interpolation options for high-quality realtime playback.
* New option to render audio files with note slice markers.
* Tempo tapping added to tempo's right-click menu
* MP3 files can be loaded into sampler channels and audio clips.
* And a lot more! For a full list, see WhatsNew.doc.

FL just keeps on getting better.
FL5 looks AWSOME.
cant wait til it comes out.
i wonder if there going to keep on making newr versions like FL6
FL7,9,10 LOL.
that would be sick!!!
can you imagine what it would look like
The only thing that would be new to me on FL5 would be the video
The look and feel of Fruity loops is still there
AWSOME

FL Studio 5 "Whats New" By- DJ Coleman

Audio & Automation Tracks
The Playlist window contains a sequence of patterns and audio/automation tracks that form the complete song structure.

Recording Panel

4.Loop Record / Overdub - Enable this option to loop the recorded pattern indefinitely until stop is hit. If a there is a time selection in the Piano Roll that selection wlil be looped instead. This feature allows you to "overdub" content on each loop (for ex. recording the score individually for a channel on each repetition).

GENERATORS

FPC

FPC (FL Pad Controller) is a software plugin similar to the hardware Akai MPC unit, coded & optimized for the FL Studio platform.

FPC is a self-contained drum machine which makes it easy to create, edit and swap drumkits on the fly to tune the sound of the drumloops in your project. FPC supports 16 multi-layered patches per drumkit bank.

The interface is separated into three parts you can display using the tabs on top of the window. In the first tab you can see the main pad properties section which shows/sets the properties of the currently selected pad

Here are some pictures of the FCP in detail

MIXING & EFFECTS

Fruity WaveShaper

Fruity WaveShaper is a wave distortion effect which maps input to output values using flexible spline-based graph.

Fruity Video Player

Fruity Video Player allows you to open and play video files synchronized with your song.

This is a very useful tool for those who need to synchronize a soundtrack with certain video content.

Keep in mind that FL Studio will not export the video you load, and the plugin can be used only for preview purposes. The audio is streamed into FL Studio like any other audio plugin, however to achieve best synchronization and quality for exported audio tracks, it is highly recommended to export the audio as wave file and use it like a regular audio track inside FL Studio.

Piano Roll Arpeggiator

The Piano Roll Arpeggiator tool allows you to apply arpeggio effect to your scores based on fully customizable arpeggio scores and a set of additional options. Unlike the the arpeggiator available in the Time Channel Settings, this is not a real-time effect, however it allows much higher level of customization and control over the results.

Piano Roll Flam

The Piano Roll Flam tool allows you to add "drum flam" effect to your scores. Flamming is essentially adding quick strokes before every note, an effect which is very useful in adjusting percussion performances.

Piano Roll Articulate

The Piano Roll Articulate tool allows you to apply quick portato, staccato and legato layout to your scores.

Event Editor

1. Draw Mode
2. Brush Mode
3. Erase Mode
4. Select Mode
5. Zoom To Selection
6. Interpolate Mode
7. Zoom Time
8. Vertical Zoom
9. Event Graph Area
10. Event Editor Menu Button
The Event Editor allows you to see, edit and save/load recorded events. You may also use it to write directly events without making a recording session.

Sampler Channel Settings (SMP)

The Sampler Channel Settings page holds properties specific for the Sampler generator. It also appears in plugin generators that support custom shapes for their oscillators. In such case, only the sample bank is visible in this tab.
