New Mixer

Hey ppl, new to this forum, been reading it for a while now, just thought i should sign up

Rite i am after a new mixer will have about 800 quid to spend. Been looking at the following few, Ecler NUO 5, Denon DNX 1500,Pioneer DJM 600 and the Tascam X 9. I want gd sound quilty and to have effects.

Atm i think the NUO 5 is winning

Ive been searching on the board and found ppl are rating the NUO 5, but think its close with the Denon 1500.

could ppl give me some opions on theses thx alot

The Nuo 5 is awesome. I haven't tried the Denon (not popular around here so not in stock), but I can tell you that you won't regret the Nuo. And trust me, I do this for a living

I second that I owned a lot of mixers and this is the best one I've ever owned

Welcome to TA man, you just said X1500, so now I ain't gonna shut up, and Nuo5 will also make alot of DJs around here jiggy in there pants, anyway, theres been many posts about these, both of these mixers are wicked, I own the Denon X1500, and have posted alot about it, let me see what I can find.

damn this is hard choice between the denon and the nuo 5 :|

i was going to post suggestions, but my current point of view is that i can't decide between the two either

so i am going to be quiet...

basically, if you get either one of these mixers, you won't be disappointed!

I am basing my new mixer solely on price. I have been able to find the x1500 drastically cheaper than the neo5 (and for that matter, the a&h's and the pioneer's).

heh yea the denon seems to be about 150quid cheaper than the nuo, and as more features...


grr why is this so hard lol


anyone got any vids of the denon in action ?

Don't be fooled by features. Most of them is marketing scam. It's the quality you should be looking at.

I can vouch it has quality and features, unless your an audiophile, you will love the sound of the X1500.

there are things that DannyO has mentioned in some of his posts that you can do with the denon which are simply genius. like routing an input to 2 seperate channels, and effecting one and fiddling about with the other etc. lots of creative options!

I own'd a denon X1500 before I got the Nuo-5

I would say I like the nuo more

-Big knobs
-adjustable effects via Edi Lab software kicks ass!
-sound is very comparible to my friends Xone 62

that said, i want a mix between the X1500's matrix input and the nuo's crossfader effects lol..

Hey man, you know on the X1500 you can assign the the same channell to each side of the crossfader and have one side run through the effects unit at 100% and then use the crossfader to go back and worth kinda like the crossfader on the Nuo, its not exactly the same, but still kicks ass, works wonders for beat juggling.

My question about this is, if the fader is in the middle so you are getting a half wet signal, does it get louder as their is twice the signal going to the speakers? I assume this would sort of be a problem so that this method we be better for fast cuts while if you are slowly adding the FX then you would want to still use the knob.

When I can afford it, I will be getting one of these two mixers and have been trying to find out as much as possible about both.

This is true, for some of the effects it does get abit louder, but for when I wanna beat juggle the tracks, the crossfader is kickass.

Also you could mod it abit and make your own slider to replace the knob on it, I've seen DJs convert the faders on it to rotary's.

If you say so. I should order one of these babies and see if it will pass my pain-in-the-ass benchmark tests. So far, only the Nuo 5, Dateq XTC and Xone:62 survived them :P

I'm also interested in this, I had a demo unit before I got my actual unit, so I thrashed the shit out of it, I covered the vents on the side, so it couldn't breath then left it on for 5 days with music going through and having the EVERYTHING on it at max, the gains, EQ, effects, volume, sampler, to see if it would die or the sound quality would drop, it didn't even hiccup, if it made any mistakes I woulda taken it back, and got the Nuo instead since it was only an extra 50 bux to get, but so far I've had nothing but fun with this mixer, I'm now a big Denon fan, I know they are part of Marantz and I've been a fan of there amps and cd players for years, they make quality gear, and I've always had good experiences with Denon gear, plus they been around for a while in the DJ department, with there Dual CD players, I never used them, but I've always heard good things about there stuff, so I know they can make gear for a club envirenment that will last.

Basically I put my X1500 through situations that no DJ will ever encounter.

Where did you find a Neo for only $50 more than the x1500 ?

It's like this:

Part 1: Place the mixer on the table, connect it and see if I can find something that annoys me

Part 2: I unscrew the units to see how their build up is like. Will it be easy to service? For instance the XTC and A&H have PERFECT build up, makes it a lot easier to repair. Where as you are TOTALLY screwed if you work at Behringer's service department

So far there is always something that annoys me, especially with budgetmixers (but that makes sense, usually you get what you pay for).

Part 3: Take it out on a gig and see how well it runs under my colleague fader abusers. There are more mixers that pass this test, but when you see the condition AFTER the gig... that really gives a bad impression of a product's lifespan. Most products don't even make it to part 3

Part 4: Look if some parts can easily break (see DannyO's example). Usually if a product survived part 3, there are none and we're talking about an excellent mixer.

Its at our local record store, it isn't an authorized dealer so you don't get a warranty, but I wouldn't care anyway.

Vash: Thats a nice test you do, I should crack mine open fully and look around, but I've seen pics of what it likes so I dunno if I'll bother, I'll only crack it open when I do a Rotary conversion.

I haven't tried it in a club environment, but I can reproduce the same environment on some weekends with my mates round.
I think you should put the X1500 through your test, I think it would pass nicely, I've left mine on for like 2 weeks at a time sometimes, and put all sorts of shit on it, I love it but don't seem to treat it nice, and yea so far it has had no problems, this is coming from an Ecler fan, so the Denon had to live up to the same quality for me, if not more as I wanted the Nuo so bad.
