NICE saw a tv show where they were talking about making transmissions with this stuff in them.. when its in neutral the magnet if off and liquid in fluid state.. when changing to drive the liquid becomes solid.

a simple way would be to hook up an iron-cored electromagnet through a diode to an amplifier, thatd probably give the desired effect.
