Thumbs up Celtic Cross

Their album "Hicksville" is very close to Shpongle quality. Dreamy guitars, atmospheric bass... go buy. It's the penultimate psy-ambient album!

I mean, the first track, Hicksville... nah, you have to hear it.

Yea, this is every bit as good as Shpongle, if not better thanks to Youth's input.

Shulman was one of the first one to make this kind of ambiant, Shpongle copied it.

Do you really think Raja and Simon didn't make this ambient before the Shpongle project? You should know all the facts before you come with accusations.

I dont know about Posford, but raja ram is in a bunch of groups, and have been prior to shpongle. Indeed shulman was one of the first to pioneer the psychedelic ambient/chillout genre, but simon didnt copy shulman.

ok "copied" was exaggerated, but very influenced by shulman yes

In that case it also goes the other way. Remember that Mystery of the yeti, where Raja & Simon did shpongle-like ambient came out in 96.

Mystery of the yeti is quite different from shpongle i recon, a lot more ambient...

But the feeling is there. Those characteristic flute lines and stuff. It was either the last or second last track.

Anyway, Vodka, you seem to have a good taste in music! Care for posting some recommendations for me?

If you're looking for similar stuff, you should check out Entheogenic as well. Their self titled album is pretty good, and they also have a second album out, called "Spontaneous Illumination". "Habitual Overtones" from that album is a class tune.

While the album is certainly well produced and has some good tunes, the whole album smells so much like a Shpongle wannabe that I can't really give it much credit. The fact that they try to cram their tunes as full of ideas as possible every time does not always work to their benefit as well.

^ I guess you're right, was a little fascinated first time I heard their productions, but after hearing Shpongle and some other shit they don't sound that special anymore. Still some decent tunes though.
