Exchange Rates can lead to Cheap Gear
Need to write about the good experience I had buying gear in the US and getting it shipped back to Canada. I'm not going to sit here and pump a website (I'm guessing that's against the rules), but I will say this: If you live in Canada you can really get some good deals right now with the falling US dollar.
Last night I opened/setup a new pair if MK2's (ordered from the US)and played for about 4 hours.
The price I paid was untouchable by any shop in my local area. However there is a dilemma as you want to support all the local shops for all the usual reasons. But I'll likely blow the money I saved in local record shops anyway - so it all works out.
Not too sure if this currency exchange can really be exploited in other countries but its worth a look.
PS: 1200's - it's the only way to go.

So basically- anything i order from the states is half price.....
Taking an empty suitcase for stuff to sell when i go to nyc in a few weeks..
yeah i was thinking of getting a deck from the US, but unfortunatly to get a deck shipped to the UK from the US, fully insured, is a bit pricey. then there are import fee's and (sometimes) taxes to pay, and all in all i would have only saved myself about �30, which in my eyes wasn't worth it when i could pay that extra �30 and have it tomorrow.
I bought my headphones from Japan almost a year ago. It's a US-company with a warehouse in Japan, so they have their price in dollars.
I saved 80 euro's compared to the prices here. Shipping was cheap as the headphones are light in weight and they send it as a 'gift' so you
won't have to pay any taxes. Only downside is if they break,
I most likely won't be able to have them serviced here under their warranty.
Don't think that you can save a lot by buying bigger gear and have them shipped trans-continental.

Sorry to hear that tu_face, I don't remember which shipping options there were at that time, but one was really expensive and I chose the cheaper, regular one. Had to wait a bit longer, but they came in great condition.
As I said before, it's great when buying smaller stuff but don't think it's worth it buying bigger things trans-continental.

shit i wanna move out of the country to get my gear cheaper. i love how our economy is "goin strong" as W says. bullshit!!! anybody know of some good apartments in toronto? LOL.
im just glad someone can take advantage of our declining economy, cuz i sure cant.
Never order from the US if you're in canada. They will rape you at the border for taxes and brokerage fees. I paid a $300 COD for a $1200 order. Was not happy about. Unless of course you know someone that lives in the US that you can have it shipped to....
There was no mention of broker fees on my order, just PST and GST added which I was told about before I placed my order.
Bottom line: I got the gear and saved a load of cash. The saved cash has now turned into new snowboard bindings. A win win.

Perhaps I should immigrate to good 'ol England and take advantage of the crap US economy as well.

sorry mate i would disagree. our economy is very strong and very stable, in fact its probably the best it has ever been. you don't see us being affected by the world's recession do you?
but yeah, everything is expensive and taxed.
Even after Shipping and tax, it was cheaper for me to order my two mk5's and pair of shure whitelabels from the states. I went through etronics.com. The best thing about them is that if you live in Canada, they have a price including taxes and brokerage fees already included. So there are no hidden costs.
The only downside is they aren't an authorized distributor... so I may have warranty issues if anything goes wrong. Oh well, its not like tech-12's are known for their problems :P I figure I'm pretty safe.
Yeah, etronics.com was the site I used. The secret is out! There are boxes and boxes of turntables and mixers heading north to Canada from the US.
At least we'll have good gear to ride out the winter.

i was planning on getting the numark fusion 818 package from www.etronics.com cheapest price i've seen...but the warrenty issue scares me a bit...damn americans always have the prices the cheapest ..when converted into CDN its only like 800 bucks...where in canada they are trying to charge $1300...that pisses me off bad.
Depending where your ordering sometime there is no duty fee.
Like on etronics I order there about 20 times and everytime it said example 200$ well it was 200$ and nothing else but shipping is damm slow with them !
Arg! besids the prices being higher already for stuff over here in aus $1.60 aus is lyk $1 american or sumfin... i think lol

Here's what they do:
1) the price of the item(s) in US $
2) add shipping in US $
3) convert item cost and shipping into CDN $ (this is where you save money these days)
4) slap on GST and PST to total from #3
5) #3 + #4 is your grand total - nothing more (from my experiences)
They bill the grand total to your credit card and that's it.
There are some US web sites that are hooked up with a company called BoarderFree which is owned by Canada Post. etronics bills BoarderFree and BoarderFree bills you.
I had no faith in it either until I tried it. I've used it 5 times now.
Exhange rates rule at the moment hence why i brought my mixer the other day - pcv-275... thanks again for your help kids. I mean i live in australia and it sells for farkin heaps ($1000(au)) and in the end i brought it from topdjgear for ($480(au)) plus a simple power converter and away i go...
