How much money were you thinking? This stuff isnt all that cheap :P

Just buy him flstudio

You'd probably be better off asking on futureproducers.com, as they're more focused on hip-hop production. Make sure you include a price range as well, or they'll just recommend the most expensive stuff (as would anyone else).

if your brother wont to be dope, and do like all the big hiphop proddish
you shuld give him a akai MPC 2000xl or MPC 4000..

in which case i recommend he goes out and actually, you know? purchases the software he illegally obtained on the internet? if he has every piece of software there is hes sorted for making music and if he cant do it he should seriously consider just giving up now. chances are hes already pirated kontakt or something so why the hell would he need a hardware sampler?

Posted by moth on Nov-13-2004 01:59:

Why buy him some hardware that his software can already do?
Buying just a sampler sounds pointless to me.

Maybe buy him some books on how to use 'his' software. The only advantage he will have if he gets a hardware synth is it will sound better than most software. But then he has to learn how to use the damn thing, and also how to effectively make productions with the software.

So i'd say get him a synth, if anything. Or a wack of sample CDs.

well like i said i know niothing abt producing. he didnt tell me he wanted equip i just thought it would be cool to buy him some. maybe ill buy him a better sound system or something.

well he uses acid pro alot and a few other software programs...he hasnt started using reason yet but maybe ill buy him a book or something abt it. thnx for the ideas guys.

Soundcard / Monitors would be a good purchase.

I was thinking that too, if I had the choice on whether to get some nice hardware synth or a good sound system, I'd get the sound stuff, and because it seems like he already has enough 'equipment' to make music with.
