PVD in Houston (10/13/01)
My god was his set awesome!!! Right at about 3 1/2 hours!! He signed autographs and shook peoples hands right toward the end of his set...
Just amazing... I was very upset with all of the people standing around... again, if you aren't going to dance move to the back of the room please!!
But overall VERY satisfied!!!
WOW!!!
AMAYZING
OUTSTANDING
INCREDIABLE
WONDERFUL
MARVELIOUS
EXCELLENT
words can not express how good that set was. it honestly could have eaily been recorded, published on CD, Labeled and then sell a million copies.
i went down with a friend and Neo-Geo from TA who came from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. i let him stay the weekend at my place. the club itself is located at a very run-down part of houston and on could easily be missed or mistakened for an abandoned building. the inside was the exact opposite. it looked very 80'ish style club but with super modern lights & lazers. i got to meet excite there agian for the second time and we actually sat down and talked for a while before PvD was on. he's a really cool guy and an interesting mix... half south african, half mexican. we'll meet up in the future agian for sure. PvD was on at around 1:30 and spun for something like 3 1/2 hours. the crowd irrupted so many times its not even funny. i didnt stop moving/dancing for the entire set even though it was really placked but that didnt stop me from jumping around, what a natural high, so amayzing, my face hurt from smiling so much. the music he chose was awsome, pure trace, and by far the best mixing job i've ever heard. so fluid. some songs i noticed were:
4 Strings - Into the night
orinoko - island (moogwai mix)
Marco V - Simulated
Iio - Rapture (PvD remake)
Ralphie B - Massive
David Forbes - Questions must be asked (magica mix)
PvD - vega (starcase remix)
PvD - anthother way (maybe the climax of the night)
PvD - tell me why
PvD - we are alive (DJ icey remix)
PvD - for an angel (sheer bliss)
along with many more progressive and hard hitting PvD style trance i can only spot the epic/uplifting ones. Excite couldnt easly name more seeing as he's a great trainspotter. i would have loved to hear signum - in progress and empire - second sun, but he didnt play those. we also could bring in a camera so i will have no personal pics, maybe ill find some on the net. shame too, cause i looked really spiffy that night, i had khaki cargo pants and a dark blue tight sleeve-less shirt, i got hit on by two older chicks (23 & 26)! first time that has ever happened to me before. It was by far the best set i have ever seen in my life, and i will defintily not forget that night!
damn he played icey's remix? lol
yeah
well yeah i agree that was a badass killer set
and much props to my boy izzy who opened his home for me to stay when i had to drive into town to see the show
i am so glad that i got his autograph
but damn that club for not letting me bring in my camera, bastards
that is the first show i have gone to and dont have pics to remember it by
well everyone have fun when u go to see van dyk cause its a great show
i just wish he would produce live
izzy you stole the words right outta my mouth. I couldn't believe how amazing that set was. It inFreakinCredible. I mean, i was totally on a natural high, letting him take me whereever he wanted me. I can't get over this weekend, I didn't want it to end. who woulda ever though i would be able to see tiesto and pvd in one weekend. Damn.
Robert
It was everything Izzy said times 3. Going into the night I wasn't the biggest PVD fan, but after that amazing set I got to give the man his PROPS!!! That night is a close second to Tiesto at Element, a VERY close second.
peace kev
ya guys i was a great event
im sorry i didnt meet any of ya'll.
bigkev, excite told me he'd introduce me to you but we never found you and i lost excite when PvD was on... once he was on i didnt move from my spot, dancing the night away.
ok now i have a seious question, does anyone know where i can find pics from that event? the wouldnt let us bring in a camera
Izzy,
We did manage to get in a camera, but I'm not sure what pics my friend took. I'll PM you and let you know if they turned out. I looked for Excite from 12-1, then I gave up. We were by the bar in the back of the DJ room, then we moved to a back room to chill out. I had a blast too bad we didn't meet, I'm sure I'll see you around. Maybe we can meet up for Destiny...AVB 3 hour set!!!
peace kev
Wow, sounds exciting
Do you think he'll be able to re-create this energy in November, in Washington DC?
I only hope he doesn't spin too much progressive, as it bores me to tears
in March I went to see Tiesto and was severely disappointed, because he only played progressive to my surprise.

Actually I would like some of those pics as well if you don't mind... they made us go back to our car to get rid of our camera...
thanks!
Oh! BTW, Kimball Collins is going to be in Houston at Hyperia on Nov. 23rd w/ dj icey... And for the people (like myself) who like Max Graham a lot he'll be at Club Ambrosia in Houston on Oct 31st!
lates!
PvD @ Hyperia kicked
Well this is my first post. This was my first time seeing PvD and I wasn't disappointed. I was right in front when he got there and for about the first hour of his set. Everybody in toronto was saying how he played wtih no emotion, but from what i noticed he was enjoying himself at first. He was moving his head the whole time and even took time to wave and smile at the crowd. Then the damn autograph seekers got all in his face trying to get autographs while he was playing. After this it seemed like he was annoyed(and who wouldn't be), he just played like he was really into the music not really moving to the beat like he was when he first got there. I finally decided to move back so I could clear me some space and dance. Overall I had a blast and thoroughly enjoyed myslef
Yeah... I thought he was enjoying himself as well... I went up to the front toward the end of his set and I saw one of the other guys in the booth telling people to back off... Right after that they made an announcement that he would sigh autographs when he was finished... then they still wouldn't back off... I even told this guy in front of me to back off.. but I guess he was to f*cked up to hear anyone talking to him.
The setlist speaks for itself. Great music but I would have liked more epic trance. I didn't realize how much progressive house PVD spins till last night. I didn't quite like the Hyperia sound system, unless you were in one of the sweet spots the sound system was too boomy. A shitload of rumble bass, no mids. It was nice talking to Izzy and friends. I also met another TA, his real name is Mark. He knew quite a bit. Anyhow here's the trax in the best order i can remember.
Cirillo Cristallo (PVD Remix)
Solicitous - Furthermost (Pure Pleasure Mix)
Sagitaire - Shout, C'Mon (Coast To Coast Mix)
Mirco de Govia - Epic Monolith

Paul Van Dyk-For an Angel
What did he spin after For An Angel? Afrika was the NEXT DJ.
I am very pissed he didn't spin my favorites: NU-NRG-Dreamland or Second Sun-Empire.I can't remember him spinning Children of the Earth either.
Izzy he DID spin Signum-In Progress. I remember cause the clubbers went crazy after that build up, not to mention I own that vinyl.
Also I think he spun the new Shapiro remix of Joyenergizer, and Airwave-Save Me.

I'm sorry to hear he didn't spin NuNRG-Dreamland.
That would've been the epic highlight of the set
Oh well, I hope he'll spin it for us in DC!
damn he didn`t play
i think he didn`t play @ Miami either.

hmmmmmm... interesting...

Oh god I'm so excited!!!
He's coming here this saturday!!!!!!! How much did you guys pay to get in?
Tickets were $30 in Houston... worth it though.
I bought mine from Ticketmaster.com and I think it was something close to $45. Although I would be ready to pay even twice as much to hear him play!
