Which is worse: Indie Rock explosion or Emo explosion

opinions?

Posted by e*motion on Nov-14-2004 19:42:

I prefer EMO over INDY.

Posted by D-res on Nov-14-2004 19:44:

i hate emo shit... everything from teenybopper punk/emo bands like those little pricks yellowcard or simple plan to dashboard confessional.

i mean half of the shit is all the same. its like.. "i was made fun of in high school one time, and a girl broke up with me."

boo - frickity - hoo

Posted by itsTrueSonic on Nov-14-2004 19:47:

^^^ concur

emo is a version of an independent band wannabe..
bands like white stipes, franz ferdinand, etc .. are a much greater extent of better musicians ...

Im sort of divided. I really hate the Shins and Death Cab

I believe our roots go further than 30 years...

emo kinda blows.....indy isnt much better, but, it isn't emo so it has that going for it.

Indie. I'm only biased because my new lady-friend is a bit on the emo side.

you gotta remember this though, death cab for cutie is along the same lines as modest mouse. They have been around for a long time, upwards of 10 years producing great music. Though just now they are getting mainstream attention. They are not a part of this "explosion" in terms of jumping on it's coat tails, Death Cab for Cutie was one of the forefathers of the movement.

Personally, Emo is the worst music out there.

You realise, as a TA, it's your duty to convert her to trance??

I realize this. The music still irks me; I'm not a terribly big fan of Modest Mouse either

Oh, I'm well aware of my duties. In fact, I've already mapped out a plan of attack.

Both are mint, just a shame about the 'explosion' part

Posted by BTG on Nov-15-2004 02:34:

i've heard some indie that i liked a little.

i havn't heard any emo that was tollerable. :/

Posted by j_spot on Nov-15-2004 02:46:

ugh. Emo is the worst
even worse is having a room mate who sings/screams his emo out of key.
its horrible!

Sorry, I had to...

Here's the thing about emo threads: people only ever whine and complain and bitch and moan about how much they hate emo. Well why do these people hate emo, you might ask? Because emo is just somebody whining and complaining and bitching and moaning. See the correlation here?

I know this isn't a strictly emo thread, I just chose to share that with ya.

I see neither as worse...especially considering the fact that 'Indie' music, within itself, by the very definition thereof, is completely immune to being part of an explosion. It's like saying 'mainstream-underground'. Well what the fuck? It contradicts itself!

People are going to like what they are going to like - the reasons tend to be different though, and the only thing that should be looked down upon is liking a music merely because it makes you feel as though you 'fit-in' with some sort of crowd. You should appreciate the music for what it is, not just refer your opinions of the mindfucked "fans" onto your judgements of the music, itself. As with any true art form, there is worthwhile beauty perceivable only by those who want to see with eyes unclouded by a limited prejudice against the dangers of something new and foreign.

Plese focus your frustrations on the appropriate aspect. As with most things, this happens to be the people.

regardless, emo sucks.
