My Damn Setup...Gr help

I have a Vestax PMC-05 mixer right...two pro-audio speakers, and a Sony STR-DE945 amp/reciever, i plugged everything in, i ran the line out rca's from the mixer to the reciever(diagram below)...and they make a buzzing noise when i turn everything on...theres diff places where i can run the mixer to the reciever to, theres phono, 5.1input (i think this is dolby surround sound), md/dat, video 1-5, tape, tv/sat, dvd, cd, "2nd audio out"(whatever that is)...nothing works, my vestax mixer has 4 plugs for line out, they are like this:

[line out]
2[] []
1[] [] <==my rca's plugged here, im hoping thats right

everything i try makes a buz noise....

are your decks grounded properly? or is this a CD setup?

you should be running the mixer into a line input on the amp, like a CD input, or something like that.

their was a good thread about things being grounded properly just search for it. Its most likely a grounding problem

yep, sounds like a bad ground to me, make sure your decks are properly grounded to the mixer. try running your TTs directly to the reciever thru the phono input and ground them to the terminal on the reciever or you can ground it to any on the screws on the back of the reciever if it doesnt have a ground terminal. this will help you troubleshoot to find out where the bad connection is.

if you have the same problem on BOTH of your TTs when they are connected direct to the reciever, then it will most likely be a problem with the reciever than a problem with both TTs or mixer.

if both work properly when connected direct to the reciever then it is probably a problem with the ground on your mixer. if this is the case you should be able to run the RCAs to the mixer and the ground to the reciever to solve your problem.

If one works and one doesnt, the ground wire on the non working deck has probably come loose and needs to be fixed. if you are handy with soldering you should be able to fix this yourself, otherwise take it to a shop that fixes TTs.

another thing to check; carts. are they old? if they have blown they will make a really loud humm.

Is everything plugged into the same outlet, or different outlets. Sometimes, you can get a grounding hum if you are on different circits. If you want the cheater way around this, Radio Shack sells Ground Loop Isolators which will eliminate more of the buzz:
