Berlin will have to wait til next year when I have less work to do Would have been worth it maybe for PvD - but Ferry fucking Corsten... what a ridiculous guest

Posted by DJ Mikey Mike on Nov-17-2004 18:36:

Yea I thought about this one for a while, but it's the guest that completely put me off in the end. I'll catch the February one I think.

ferry corsten is shit? and doesnt really fit into the vandit night set up in any way shape or form ... how about that?

good vandit night guests = Timo Maas, Sander Kleinenberg, Nick Warren, Sasha, Jerry Bonham etc etc

bad vandit night guests = ferry corsten.

spot the difference

There's a difference from thinking he's shit and him not fitting into the Vandit Night setup. I believe you just claimed both.

what are you on about now?

He clearly doesnt fit in, id propose the only reason hes booked is to get a good crowd from holland going. Thats the reason tiesto plays LFA. PvD's choices of guests are all in the other room (Timo Maas, Moguai, Rene Vaitl .... )

because he plays a totally different sound to 99% of any previous guest. Thats all there is to go on... and its plain to see.

look at the previous guests from 2000 - present

and look at him

he doesnt fit in.

Hm let's see, all of Paul's guests and most of the music Paul plays at a Vandit Night are of the progressive/trance spectrum. Granted, most of his are usually of the progressive kind, but that doesn't stop Paul from inviting people like Stefano Libelle, Nu NRG, Marc van Linden and Second Sun to his Vandit Nights. I fail to see why Ferry Corsten should fit any less in than those.

Also, Ferry is not all about dutch trance fluff. Looking at the Right Of Way tracklist proves that, as well as the recent gigs he has had in Germany.

we are talking about berlin, not gatecrasher in the UK that happen to have 'vandit' written on the flyer.

Second Sun & Nu NRG play live sets, about 30 minutes of the entire night...

such as when Nu NRG played he'd also have jerry bonham on as the guest DJ...

ferry corsten as a guest dj playing (probably) a 3 hour set, is not really in keeping with the history of the whole thing.

yes hes trying to go towards a more 'electro trance' sound - something that PvD has been very critical of in the past..

in fact hes always been quite critical of ferry corsten

so i dont see how he fits into the guys own night.

Jerry Bonham got invited while he used to be a trance DJ too, just look at his early mixcds. And regardless of how long they play, it's still the same kind of sound that you obviously claim doesn't fit Vandit Nights. Yet you still get to hear it there.

I think the only reason you get all worked up over this is cos you think Ferry is shit, pure and simple. Why should Paul get slated for trying out something new with his nights as long as the crowd likes it?

And no, I don't mean Ferry's electro pastiches productionwise, I'm talking about variety DJ wise. And if Paul hates Ferry's "electro" productions so much, why has he played It's Time and Punk several times?

because hes not trying anyting new, i know exactly why hes booked ferry & its got nothing to do with his strenght as an artist or a dj.

second sun hardly play a set full of ferry corsten trance anyway...

and i think nu nrg are shit too, and if im honest i dont see how they fit into vandit nights or onto the vandit label.

& yes i do think ferry is shit

it doesnt matter if its original or remixed, because if the remix no longer represents the original sound, then it represents the remixer more than the original artst. ie. sweetest dreams[corsten], in the beginning again[corsten] as for original tracks,he played the shit out of punk. and a good dosage of indigo when it got mad old might i add

he plays kai tracid's remix of its time, its nothing like the original...

i have no idea why he played punk, its shite - it is a bit strange of pvd to slate that sound and then play the record, but dont doubt that he slates the sound. He does it a lot.
