my friend just found out his mom has MS

she woke up in the middle of the morning not being able to feel her legs, they took her to the hospital, and after 15hrs in there they found she had ms, how bad can this be i think she's in her 40's i feel so bad this is my best friend and i love his mom and his whole family they've done so much for me they are great people. i really hope this isnt bad, they havent said yet if it is or not.

Best Wishes to your friend and his family. I'm going thru a simlar thing myself. My 18 yr. old brother Shawn was diagnoised with Hodgkins Lymphona Cancer Stage 2B back in September. Since than he has gone thru kemo about 5 times now and the lumps have gone down but are not away. He will be starting radation very soon as well. Bad things is Shawn a senior in High School and would like to go to college as soon as school is out. He still does his normal routine of School,Work, and Band but he is in high spirits and we are too. That what you have to be able to do for your friend is just be there for them.

umm just not sure about ms i dont know if its cureable or if you can take meds to control it im just wondering if people know others with ms that are ok that live normal lives

depends how severe it is.

It also depends if the family can afford the drugs and treatment which is VERY expensive.

MS can slowly take over your body until you are a vegetable


Very sad news indeed

they dont know how severe it is yet and im know they can afford i just hope all goes well

sorry to hear this, but it can be manageable with the right medication and treatment. in some cases it can be bad though, i hope for the best for your friends mum.

My mates mum has had it for 18 years now, he's helped his dad no end to care for her. She doesn't get around well but is a lovely person, medications can stem some symptoms but he's gotta realise that this will be a long and sometimes thankless labour for her, but she's his mum and is more than likely worth it

Yeah one of my great aunts has had it for years.

She's pretty bad now, but still kickin' it in her wheelchair.

WTF? I thought Scotland had full healhcare coverage?

Maybe private insurance is the best as long as they are regulated to not drop people when they get sick.

I dunno. HMOs suck too and have refused to pay for some of my health care bills in the past.

there are injustices such as this all over the world. if its not where you live, its whether you can afford it. still, its free here, all they have to do is move, which i know can be a strain but it will be worth it. and i would rather have this scenario, than having to worry about footing the bill for a hip replacement in my old age.

its "lucky" that when my mother had cancer, we lived right next to the best place in the country for treating it.

Yeah but isn't Scotland part of the UK? or does each country have their own separate healthcare coverage?

we are all part of the UK, but scotland decided it wanted a bit of devolution, it has its own policies on various things, including health care and education.

i know a woman with MS actually, she came to the pool i lifeguarded during the summer like every day for as long as i can remember
and yeah, it has been spreading a bit, her legs are a bit more stiff than a few years back (we help her in and out of the pool, two people - one operates each leg for her)
but hell, she's a nice person, and she's swimming when she can't use her entire lower body
