Why Ableton Live 4?

Well, tell me, what is so special in Ableton Live? Why a lot of people tell "It's great" "Amazing" and so on, what's special? How can i use it? For what can i use it? What can i do with Ableton Live? Please tell me...

to tell you the truth I really don't see it being good for anything except Djing. To create a song is alot like working in Acid but more bulky and inconvenient. But as for Djing it's a great program that you can be very creative in and has lots of great features like easy to use effects and automatic beat matching. And you can have as many channels as you want unlike traktor (not to knock traktor).

Live is intended to be used by a DJ. It's not as comprehensive as Logic or Cubase in terms of sequencing but it has all the tools one would want to create and mix music.

The UI on Live is intuitive but different from standard sequencers so there is a learning curve. For it to really shine, a midi-assigned controller(s) with a cross-fader is needed. I wouldn't dare using VSTI while DJing however. It's more likely to crash. Best method is to export all the tracks into flat wave files and then mix that.

There is a considerable amount of preparation needed to use Live but once you get past that point, the level of creativity and originality is limitless. You can program in a track on the fly, apply effects, allowing every performance to be unique.

So can you use it for actual mixing - i.e. transitions from track A to track B? Or just other "DJ" stuff/live performances?

it is extensive. whatever gave you the impression that live 4 isnt as fully featured as cubase or logic? you can write complete songs in live. i got a cut down version with my soundcard and i use floops primarily but i did twiddle with live for a bit. the first thing that struck me is that its easy to use and its easy to swap patterns in and out of a mix, mute channels and effect things quickly. its a breath of fresh air to use live because its so easy to build up and wind down a track in realtime, rather than laying all the patterns out and MIDI triggering the whole thing. you can do that too (like any other host) but live just makes it easier to do it on the fly. which is a pretty unique feature. i can see why live performers fall in love with it.

Well artists like BT use ti and have said nothing but good things. It's got great MIDI capabilities so you can use it in conjunction with other equipment. You can also use it in conjunction with other programs. Can assign the cross fader to different channels so 1 & 4 can be on A and 2 & 3 can be on B so you can experiment with different things. Just about everything can be assigned to have keyboard shortcuts. you can have as many channels as you want both audio and midi and the arrangement of the program is kick ass too! For breaks I find it to be simply great with features such as automatic beat matching, easy to use and neat effects, loop feature with none of that stutter or pause shit and you can edit the samples in real time.
