Spanish Fans In The England Match

Just simply a disgrace no matter what you think about the England team the black players do not deserve that abuse what so ever. No one should suffer racism, just a complete shame and I am disgusted at their fans.

Kick racism out of football.

I was quite surprised, I always thought of Spanish fans to be of the Nordic variety as opposed to Lazio ultras.

Having said that, racism was also dominant in English football until the comprehensive and effective anti-racism movement in the 90s. I think the rest of the leagues (apart from the French and German) are behind in that regard.

Agreed 100%.

On a completly unrelated topic, Screw England

Maybe, but the punishments are harsh and media response is doused with venom. Contrast that to the media in countries like Greece and Italy and racism almost goes unnoticed. Almost accepted as part of a "boys will be boys" culture.

Posted by SPANIARD on Nov-18-2004 01:47:

I'm not trying to downplay the racism in the Bernabeau today, but I will say that I don't think alot of the jeering towards the english players was as much towards the black players as it was to any english player in general. Alot of the people(the non ultras in the stadium) were really fed up with the tackles the Spanish players were recieving. Rooney was getting the same kind of booing like A.Cole was for example, and in fact A.Cole never got monkey noises made at him until his incident with Joaquin.

There were at the most 5,000 ultras in the stadium and alot of them disgrace Real game in game out, but the other 70,000 were taking it out on everyone in a white shirt.

another reason why madrid and everything that comes out of it (real , the socios , and all that shit) suck ass

by the way if i was in madrid , i would have jumped on the pitch and punched andy cole fuckin' asshole

hmmm I always knew spain had a little prob with racism but this from what I read is mest up.
This shit happens in Argentina too by the way.assholes

Posted by fastmp3 on Nov-18-2004 04:25:

what i hate in argentina is that they call the brazilians ******s

Posted by tbias on Nov-18-2004 04:59:

This is nothing but England trying to take the focus off them being quite shit at the moment. I mean those hooves can't even beat Austria.

Posted by InterMilan31 on Nov-18-2004 07:34:

Are you guys taking the piss?? Everytime Cole, Wright-Phillips, Rio, Dafoe, Jenas etc got the ball they all shouted monkey noises at them.

Posted by dchaves on Nov-18-2004 08:57:

I only watched the first time of the match, and I understand that people was booing to the english players because they where tackling like hell, and I noticed that the biggest boo was directed towards Rooney, so I don't think it was racism. That said, I hadn't watced the second half, so if this got worse I can't really tell.

I dont think its too hard to understand Cole. After being subjected to that level of disgusting abuse its natural to be fired up and lose your head in a few tackles.

Rooney can be a prick but hes only a kid anyways and, quite frankly, I have played with many like him and its great to have his kind of players on your team to rough up the opposition a bit.

quite frankly i was happy he pushed casillas who happens to be a terrible goalkeeper (terrible as in negative)

Well I dont know how Casillas has been doing this year as I dont follow Madrid. But from what ive seen in previous years he is a great goalie and a decent guy. So i dont really mind him, and he gets more respect from me than the other Madrid players as he actually came through the youth system and if it weren't for him we would be seeing a "galactico" goal-keeper in there as well.

Actually, too bad he didnt twist an ankle or something to miss the Barca game! Should have pushed harder Wayne!

I can't believe you people are making excuses. It's disgusting, pure and simple.

By Christ, if England fans had done this...say they had called them a bunch of spics and diegos, we'd never hear the end of it. But when England is on the receiving end of crap like this, there are excuses like "dirty tackles". I mean fuck off.

I second that, there should be no excuses, dont care if it happens in the leagues in Italy or Greece or whatever it shouldnt be happening still. No excuse for it what so ever, if I was on the recieving end of that treatment I wouldnt have the right mindset either.

Are you saying that he is the first player to be under racial abuse and that's why he was making hard tackles? That's ridiculous. In almost everygame there is some form of verbal abuse towards players and most of them don't lash out like that.

I'm not saying you don't have the right to be angry at what happened, almost every Spanish person is ashamed of it, but it sounds like you're losing your mind over this. In almost every qualifier/friendle England plays it seems this happens like vs. Macedonia, Slovakia etc. The patterns I've noticed over this is that it always happens to England's black players. I've never anything like this happen with Holland, France, Portugal etc who have just as many within their teams, so I definetly think there is a high level of general hatred for England within Europe which really is nothing new.

I dont know what you guys are talking about. No gave any "excuses" for the racism. I was as disgusted as anyone else- probably more so because I have been on the receiving end of some minor alterations when i was on my school team.

What makes it more bothersome is that none of the Spanish media or soccer representatives have been forthcoming in condemning the attitude of the fans. As if it was 'ok' in a sense. If this were to happen in England or France the press and public would be in outrage in a flash.

Yes, I will tend to agree with that with the recent global political scenario and the history of English hooliganism.

But the thing that bothers me the most, like I said, is the lack of media and football association action. It has all been rather muted in the Spanish press. I'm not certain if this is a further anti-English stance but priorities have to be set. No amount of anti-whatever can justify racism. If the Spanish fans were so anti-English they would have jeered the whole team but that was not the case.

Anyways, as I side note, I am quite aware that this is a minority problem as I have many Spanish friends who are some of the coolest people I have met. Looking forward to visiting Spain very soon.

After watching the news, the only thing I can tell is that I'm very ashamed of the Ultras Sur (the radical supporters of Real Madrid), they were the people doing the monkey sounds and the chants of ku kux klan. I think it was ok booing people because of the hard tackling, but they don't hace the right to feel superior than anyone only because of the color of their skin.

And fastmp3, the only thing you find terrible of Casillas is that he plays with Madrid and not for Barca
