Russia's developing new nuclear weapon

...Well more like a missle actually that will render all that came becore it obsolete. Meaning that US missle defence shield program will be useless against those missles because they'll be so advanced.

I guess that's another blow to their program and another reason for Canada to stay out...maybe?! Anyways, go Russia

Schweet! C'mon WWIII!

...the opposite... it gives us more incentive to develop a missile shield.

Russkies don't f**k around making missles. they have an anti-ship missle the SS-20 that we can't defend ourselves from. our Phalanx or CIWS can't touch it. the Chinese have bought quite a few.

they make a pretty mean torpedo too.

Posted by Zild on Nov-18-2004 18:14:

The Chinese have been saying they wanna nuke us for years now.

I thought Europe was moving towards a policy of economic and political superiority and away from military might?

read the damn articles man. The Ruskies are making the weapon capable of PENETRATING the proposed US missile defence system.

Pure political posturing. The missile sheild was designed to defend the US from rogue nations not Russia. You would need a whole shitload of lasers, ABM missiles, and some rediculous coordinated targeting system to shoot down the thousands of MIRVed ICBMs if Russia launched its arsenal. Pootypoot is just stirring up some Russian patriotism.

Besides ... we could always scramjet nuke him

What exact missile are you talking about? Holod?

No what you don't understand is that the missle shield would not defend you form this missle they are developing...missle > shield

Nicknamed "Mosquito". Sunburn class missile. It has 100 mile range travelling at mach two. With current technology, impossible to intercept. Even impossible to detect until right before the impact. Can be launched from either assault boats or mobile launchers.

Five of these at most, and say bye-bye to any aircraft carrier.

Oh, forgot to mention, you can put nuclear charge inside. One of these and there goes an average sized fleet.

Posted by 3xx3r7 on Nov-18-2004 20:41:

Also there is SS-22 is available. Range is 250 km, and travels at mach three. Also, can be launched from aircraft.

They've got a lot of "cool" stuff the west has never heard about, that's usually the difference though between the russians and the amerincas. Usually when the americans create something they unveil it to the world with a big celebration and such...Russians usually keep everything under wraps till a few years later those who need to know, know.

I want to see some new jets that they're developing, it's been a while They have the craziest jets.

And about that comment that China wants to attack US, come on that's absolute nonsence...North Korea maybe though

Posted by Zild on Nov-18-2004 22:08:

How do you know some chinese people don't want to strike the US? They don't really like us afterall. I don't see how you think its nonsense. Now if I said China is going to strike the US at major cities with nuclear arms within the next year that would be nonsense.

At the same time, you might want to say that there are some American people that might want to stike other parts of the US. And there are surely some German people that wouldn't mind eliminating some americans and there are some Polish people which might want to take a pick at the US too...

My point is: just because there might be few people that are not happy with your government, I really do not think that China is currently contemplating at what time to push the red button.
And I think to make predicitons on the future of the US-China relationship is very difficult, since it will largly depend on China's political structure at that time.

thanks for pointing that out. In the end, the US had mentioned that the missle shield will not protect against either China or Russia, since they just have too much schtuff to send over here.

Posted by starsearcher on Nov-18-2004 22:33:

China and the US have friendly relations, besides, think about how many Chinese people actually live in the US and North America in general...and it's just a stupid idea overall China is not in a position to win a war against the US anyway...(although that can be debated)

Posted by BadBadNeil on Nov-18-2004 23:55:

In this time I don't think any large superpower could win a war against the other. Countries like India, China, the US, etc are just too large to invade, with way too many people, way too much military might, too industrialized, and with everyone possessing nuclear weapons capable of taking out every major city everything would be destroyed before a single soldier ever stepped foot on another country's soil.

I don't think Russia is really in a position to be developing larger nuclear weapons when the US is paying to clean up their current aging weapons. Also isn't the trend more toward militarized small yield nuclear weapons that can realistically be used in a battle rather than a larger weapon? Russia has a weak economy and all the money they spend to build a weapon that is "bigger than yours" is just absurd. We know they don't like the US missile shield program (which is a pretty absurd program in and of itself) but they act like we still have our missiles pointed at all of russia with fingers on the trigger. What is the next goal to develop a missile capable of taking out an entire country with a single blow?

Posted by 3xx3r7 on Nov-19-2004 00:10:

It is much cheaper to develop an improved missile or a weapon, than missile defense system that cannot even work properly in staged condition.

Russia = 80% of asia Well more or less...even though it's more considered Europe...Russia is developing economically and politically but don't let that confuse you...European nations ARE NOT disarming and never will

They maybe working towards more economic reforms but that doesn't mean they are disarming or stop developing weapons

Yes, all the more reason to put more money into researching how to improve the shield's design.
