All You DJs, Whats Your BPM Range

for example, whats the slowest track you'd play and the fastest.

for me its 125 - 143

Posted by mike_stefan69 on Nov-18-2004 19:31:

shit question

the BPM depends on what kind of music you play
unless you are a DJ that plays different genres (which most people on this forum arent), you're pretty much going to stick to a 5-7 BPM range

i'm not a dj, but i have turntables at my house and mix with them.

140 - 145 is my bpm range, and I speed up my prog when I mix

Sheesh, you aren't kidding!

Well is doesn't really matter what the bpm of the record is when you have a pitch control. I like to sit around 134 to 140 myself.

i usually play techno, ranging from approx 137 up to the high 140's when i am banging it out like a nutter.

Posted by DJ Kenosis on Nov-18-2004 20:52:

139-142 for epic trance
141-144 for hard epic trance or hard trance
142-145 for psytrance

My sets are usually a mix of the above.

132-135 for prog/prog trance

Posted by NiteMer on Nov-18-2004 20:58:

The slowest record that I've actually used is around 65 BPM. Orinoko - Island. It's a downtempo mix that can be mixed into a track played at double speed. Good opener.

I play most of my progressive between 128-132, but there are exceptions in both directions depending upon circumstances.

Trance I play around 135-139, faster for Hard Trance up to about 145, but I've had to come out of someone at 149 and build down as well.

Don't play Jungle yet, but that's faster, of course.

Breaks can vary from 129-140 for me.

Prog trance is usually between the trance and prog tempos.

i play in range between 125-130 and i play like techy house, electro, jackin stuff, acid, progressive

Posted by fLipp on Nov-18-2004 21:19:

138 - 144

I normally find that "some" tunes sound better when played faster.

example: Modulation - Spirits (Cosmicman Remix)

First heard it on PvD's Energy 2003 set pitched up. But when I heard it played at normal rate it was painful.

Posted by capricorn15 on Nov-18-2004 21:27:

for producing, i seemed to be down between 100 to 125
i dont like anything faster than that when im producing

Posted by IgnazZio on Nov-18-2004 21:34:

129 - 140

Never above 140

Posted by Boomer187 on Nov-18-2004 22:17:

Why did you post this stupid question in the music discussion forum? It obviously belongs in the DJ forum. Please move this thread to the correct location.

FYI

Each genre has a BPM range. Depending on the genre you prefer to spin it will indicate the range you play in.

For example:

80- 105 Hip Hop

120-135 Prog./ House

135-145 Trance/Techno

145+ Techno/Hard Trance/Happy Hard Core Shit

Posted by D-res on Nov-18-2004 22:55:

im all about keeping it between 135 and 145.

Posted by Nik Novo on Nov-18-2004 23:14:

That depends

When i play prog its somewhere between 130 and 138 (depends on the tracks), uplifting and stuff between 145 and 150

Posted by Vermz on Nov-18-2004 23:30:

Rasta

I play hardcore and D&B at 160-178bpm

Posted by LazarusDJ on Nov-19-2004 00:00:

Probably between 138 and 152 depending on my mood.

Posted by Tenshi on Nov-19-2004 00:08:

i tend to play most of the stuff (either prog, trance or techno) at about +4% - +6% on my technics!
