I'll write what I put in your PM.

Why is your style completely different from the songs you review in the discussion board?

Its not.

I review both trance and prog. tracks on TA. I play both trance and prog. as you can see in my playlist. Look at Session 005 and Session 006. Both are Progressive sets but a different sound of progressive and two different storylines. Now Look @ Session 007 and Session 004. They are both trance sets but two different sounds of trance with two different story lines.

The songs I recently recommended on TA are tracks I just purchased and will be used in a future progressive mix I am doing ( i.e. 1799,Not Even Winds, etc.) I usually recommend tracks on TA when I buy them not after I've used them in a mix.

Why do I play both prog. and trance?

I try to move around within 'my styles' depending on my mood or message I am trying to push. I dont try to corner myself into a particular style or sound. This makes DJ'ing and EDM fun and interesting for me. I try to be consistent in the message I conveys through the mix but vary that message. 005 and 006 are very different from 001-004 because I was hoping to tell a 'different story'.

I use music to express myself and my feelings. I use all forms of EDM to achieve this goal. I want to keep my listeners entertained with the beauty and varity of electronic dance music.

Some DJs try to find a particular sound, I just try to find good music. I hope to please as many listeners as I can but be true to what I believe that 'sound' , be it trance or prog. , should be. My trance mixes area a reflection of the sound of the trance I enjoy. My prog. mixes area a reflection of the sound of prog. music I enjoy.

Thank you again again for all your support ! Enjoy the music

I'm sorry if this comes off as overly critical, but since you never seem to mince words with others on this board, I hope you can respect my frankness:

I think you 007 mix is extremely derogatory of a "Paul van Dyk" sound. Everything from your first track "The Weapon" to the John Askew and Marc van Linden tracks in the middle to the Paul van Dyk tracks at the end is very stereotypical "Paul van Dyk-ish". I know what you'll say in response to this: "I can't help it, this is the type of music that I love, and so that is the type of music that I will play, I'm not djing to please you". And I respect that. However, while that kind of mix will probably get listeners on tranceaddict and probably get a positive response, I'm just saying that it's probably not the type of mix that'll really impress anyone. It's just not pushing any boundaries or trying anything special.

As far as your 006 mix, again, I have criticism. For anyone who has some knowledge of progressive music, they could probably see that the mix is more or less a collection of "huge" prog tunes, with nothing unique or personal about it.

OK, sorry for being so negative. I'm not trying to say that I'm a better dj or that I look down on you for any reason. You're a very good mixer technically, and it's so clear that you're extremely passionate about what you're doing, so I just know you could do more than just these cookie-cutter tranceaddict-pleasing mixes. Feel free to rip any mixes I post to shreds

Do you have any radio shows Dave? I'd like to hear an online show before I clog up my pc with any of this.

I am not trying to impress anyone. I am just playing music I enjoy to people who have similar tastes. I hope that people with a similar taste for music will appreciate what I play. Hopefully with time people will come to value my musical taste which varies on what mood and dimension of the mix I want to create. Look at session 004 and look at session 007. Big difference imo. Or look at Session 005 and Session 006. Big difference imo

If anything I believe that what I choose to play and when I decide to play it is what makes me special. You really have to look at my entire set and not just one track. I believe that all my sets are unique.

If you can find me a DJ that played all the songs I have ( and nothing more) in a similar order than I am a clone and I would love to meet that DJ. If not than I am being a true DJ.

Please prove to me If I am a clone or a DJ.

I could be really different and play shit no ones ever heard but I wouldn't enjoy the music nor would I be happy in the direction I was moving dance music. I would get more gigs and I probably would get noticed more if I had a unique sound and/or 'different' tracklist. But thats not the reason why I choose to become a DJ. I love this music and I want to share it with others. I am not trying to be famous and I m not trying to change music. I am just pushing forward a sound of dance music I enjoy. A sound which will always vary but keep you entertained.

I was trying to tell a different story in this mix and wanted to make it different from my other mixes. I wanted to give listeners a taste of my hard- trance side in this mix. Again I am not trying to push boundaries but just play tracks I like. This is what being a DJ means to me.

I believe the difference in this set and a PVD set is that I placed a personal touch in selecting the hard trance tracks and the placement of those tracks. I also never heard PVD play Sunrise, The Rider, Vainqueur , Blackout, and Shooting Star.

I also never heard or saw Paul Van Dyk organize a melodic hard trance set in the fashion I did. Alot of hard trance tracks PVD does play are shit. Half of the tracks PVD chooses are annoying and repetitive. Tracks I would never play. If you show me any Paul Van Dyk tracklist I will demonstrate to you that I only prefer 40-50% of the tracks he chooses.

Unfortunately, I can not help that certain DJ's will play the same tunes I like. I don't get super new promos. Artists dont send me white labels. I buy records after many of the bigger DJ's get their hands on them. Thus Armin,Tiesto,Paul Van Dyk, Sasha, etc. will play out tunes before I get a chance to use them in a mix. Should I abandon my taste because another DJ gets the records first? No.

Again these are prog. tracks I like. If I like the song and it fits in the narrative than it is personal to me. I am not going to play boring or bullshit prog. just for the sake of being different. I felt that each song complimented the next perfectly. I felt the progression of the mix was done well.

Again I am not trying to corner myself into a particular sound or style. I play tunes I like.

I think I am different because not all of us have similar tastes or passion for music. I think my passion and taste for music is heard in my mixes.

If I can make someone dance to my music then I have accomplished my goal.
