Handy Maps of Where the Nukes Will Fall if Nuclear Holocaust Breaks Out

Check out your state:

Wow, I might actually survive both the blast and the fallout! I'm squeezed between Topeka (they're fucked) and KC (they're really fucked) in N. Douglas County, and it appears that we may not get hardly any fallout, depending on which way the wind blows I suppose.

Funny, considering that my city, Lawrence KS was the cite for that nuclear bomb film in the '80's, The Day After:

http://www.ibp-intl.demon.co.uk/nuke/dayafter.html

My hometown of Wichita is really fucked, but it always had been. Back during the Cold War it was on the top 5 of sites to bomb due to Boeing, an AFB, and other aircraft companies and materials.

I'm in the red ring so i'll probably just get sunburned and have really deformed children. I'm lucky I have a desk handy to duck and cover under.

Did anyone look at montana? There gotta be 1000 nukes dropped there!

Posted by razmataz on Nov-19-2004 21:21:

Does this mean that the areas with the rings and targets have nuclear power stations close by because i cannot fathom a town like Cumberland being a terrorist target?

NYC is pretty fucked.

Don't worry, I'm dead too.

I think I'd take instantaneous vaporization over radiation poisoning and fallout though. So, I'll be in blissful oblivion as the rest of the US begins to vomit their intestines.

Looks like I'll be high and dry.

Looks like they will be bombing farmers and Indian Reservations.

Isn't North Dakota where all the missle silos are located? I'm guessing that's why you'll be nuclear carpet-bombed.

Yep, that's precisely why. This is actually a pretty freaky thread, since I'll be in Bismarck on business next week, and was discussing this very fact about missile silos with my co-workers this morning.

North Dakota is not the only state that will get creamed if Russia decides to go nuts with their nukes. There are about 10 other states that have dense concentrations of nuclear ICBMs, and those places will get targeted heavily and first. Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, etc.

Well I am in that isolated nuke on the eastern half of the state.
What kind of business do you have in Bismarck? There isn't much there or in this entire state for that matter. Except a few remaining nukes, some oil and coal.

Remember the only skyscraper on the cityscape is the capitol building. It is like 30 stories high. The rest is nothingness and fly by country.

I'm a lawyer for a company that's getting sued there. Since it's a big Fortune 50 company, and had sales offices in all 50 states, it can be sued anywhere. This guy just happened to live in Bismarck.

I just hope it doesn't snow. No offense to your state, but I really don't want to be stuck there for Thanksgiving. Although I've heard Bismarck has some decent restaurants.

Hmm, good thing I moved out of ND a few years ago

Uh the cold war ended a while ago. Maybe these maps woulda been relevant in 1980

I think they place at least a bomb on every capitol and large city, they rest either get it because of military, industrial, or natural resources.

just another way to scare the american public into believeing the gov't

Ok, one, this is bullshite

Two, when I followed the link to the UK I got the following pile of bullshite...

quote:
I haven't got a group, but you are welcome to give my e.mail address to any other British members you may have. Also, I will pass on to you anything I can find here (fact, not rumour) which would be of interest to British readers. For instance, the Channel Tunnel will be closed before midnight on New Year's Eve because the authorities do not want any possibility of trains stopping in the Tunnel due to Bug-breakdown; also, Luton Airport (a mainly charter airport slightly to the northwest of London) will be closing down at 4 p.m. our time on New Year's Eve. I have heard the same of Heathrow but cannot confirm it at this time. Both the above pieces of news came from recent editions of The Daily Telegraph, London.
Sonya Woking,
England

As you can see, the above is merely bullshite

The whole thing is bullshite beacuse there is no danger whatsoever of nuclear war so all those orange splodges above your home town are...bullshite

But, lets say it did happen (not sure how cos it would take either Russia or China to do it and neither of them will) if I were to be affected it would becuase I live in Yorkshire (albeit the nice bi - South Yorkshire) and Menwith Hills and RAF Fylingdales would be targeted first, but with some lucky eastern blowing wind, I would be safe, and better yet, L**ds, Manchester and Liverpool would be taken out.

(Unfortunately I just realised I moved from sheffield to leeds three months ago but only for uni so hopefully the nukes will drop after next september when my dissertation will be safely handed in)

Hooray for sunburns and mass paranoia!

Posted by Spacey Orange on Nov-22-2004 05:19:

An absolutely horrid and dreadful possibility. (An understatement, I know.)

BTW how is this supposed to scare americans. If anything, it should scare americans into action against non-nuclear proliferation and mutual nuclear disarmament.

I'm with Smiley on this one.

Posted by occrider on Nov-22-2004 14:39:

Wow, people need to relax a little bit. These are FEMA (Federal Emergency Managment Agency) maps dating back to 1990 that were intended for FEMA personel to get an idea of the damage in a nuclear war. YOu know how the army war college plans for every war scenario and conducts war games? FEMA plans for every disaster scenario to get an idea of how to respond in such a situation. I don't understand where you all formulate the link that this is evidence of gov't propoganda or fear mongering since these maps weren't distributed to the public at the time and were for internal FEMA use only. Use some common sense here, I'm sure the last thing the government wants is for citizens to look at these maps and start moving out of all the cities or kill zones to middle of nowhere areas.

At any rate, the possiblity of nuclear war is extremely remote, however, both countries still have their nuclear launch protocols set to minutes and given the fact that there have been 4 major false alarms that have brought us to the brink of war in 1979 and 1980 (american false alarms) in 1983 and 1995 (russian false alarms), I would say the threat is still something to be respected.
