do explain how, i mean the prophet is very fast, and not really suited for first song play

slow it down from 146 to say... 140 - 138.. its got a good intro and although its hard to mix out of, it sounds great if successful...

in my opinion.... get creative and create an intro mix of your favorite track

Yeah, the opening sound is something that really sets the tone for the mix, and ought to be experimented with versus the flow of everything else.

One of my favorite openings was for the main set of the night, with Underworld - Cowgirl (Bedrock Remix) at +8 or 9. The intro for the track worked great for setting mood (dim basement), and then mixed great into some slamming dark trance at medium-low pitch.

When I'm lazy and decide to take the standard prog -> trance -> tech route I've usually started with Sasha & Emerson - Scorchio or Tone Depth - Rumblefish, at about +4 or 5.

Nubreed & Luke Chable - One Day (Chable's extended dub)

that's one of my fav intro tunes right now.

rumblefish is a tune... starting with the prophet is 1337

ummm sometimes i like to use george michael - amazing

i always thought it would be cool to start a set with a low, bassy rumble, like earthquake sounds in movies. just to wake every one up

starfighter - apache has kind of a cool into, paul used that for a while, once in a while he uses that train sound.

I started my last 2 sets with: Orbital - Halcyon + On + On and Bt - Flaming June (Chicane Remix) .

agreed.
Nu-Nrg - Le Mirage

For a harder feeling
James Holden - Horizons (Wet and fucked remix)

That first bass kick is awesome when it comes out of nowhere. Silence, and then BAM, instant attention getter.

classic one:
Aria - Dido (Armin van Buuren's Universal Religion Mix)

I really loved the opening of the Tiesto concert with Forever Today.. the song itself totally switches forms somewhere in the middle, it gives time for some words and then brings on the party mood.

Derek Howell - Might as well do this while I still can
