The Best Of Ali Karimi (ASIAN MARADONA)

Download the video and tell me your opinion about this player.

VIDEO ALI KARIMI

Ive always held Ali Karimi in high regard. I have seen bits and pieces of him here and there but got the chance to finally see his whole game when Iran played Ireland for the 2002 qualifiers. He is an immense talent but I think he has made a mistake in choosing the UAE league in favour of Athletico Madrid. I read somewhere it was because he wanted to stay close to family which I think is ridiculous unless someone dear to him is dying. Sacrifices have to be made to earn success. Hope to see him on a bigger stage soon. I think with some time in a big league he can hold his own against some of the best defenders.

edit: thanks for the video! downloading now

edit2: so who was the asian player of the year anyways? Great video. Lots of tricks up his sleeve and has a deceptive pace as well. Can really run fast when he wants to. Liked that one particular run versus Roma and that one goal he scored when he passed defenders AND the goalie while on the goal kick line.

the best player was i guess nakamura or an iraqi player, idk why. i think bc of political stuffs, they don't like iranian too much. they actually had a poll on their official website and karimi got the best percentage, but they don't care.

and yes he can, and i dont know how. he's foot has a soemthing that he doesn;t lose the ball. he did that several time against germany as well.

In all fairness he probably wouldn't pull off half those runs against a decent team.

He's done them against Roma, Germany and single handedly took the game to the Irish in their WC2002 world cup qualifiers. I'd say all of the above are decent teams.

He has garnered sufficient interest from several European clubs and Athletico Madrid actually made an outright bid. I think he is a talent that can be nurtured in a European league into something quite special.

he's done this in every single games that he has played. that's just a short collection of them. and all the teams just fouls on him to stop him.

there not exactly great defensive teams tho.

When he rips the **** out of teams like barca and ac milan then I'll sit up and take notice.

I guess Karimi won Asian PLayer of the Year after all

Iran's Karimi crowned Asian player of the year

By Alastair Himmer

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 (Reuters) - Iran forward Ali Karimi was crowned Asian player of the year on Wednesday, edging out fellow nominees A'ala Hubail of Bahrain and Japan's Shunsuke Nakamura.

It was the fourth time a player from Iran has won the award since it was introduced by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in 1994.

"This award is the result of years of hard work," said Karimi, who plays for United Arab Emirates club Al Ahli. "I want to dedicate this to the people of Iran."

The 26-year-old helped Iran finish third at this year's Asian Cup and was the tournament's joint top scorer with five goals.

Karimi has attracted interest from several European clubs and said he was anxious to make his mark overseas after scoring 27 goals for Al Ahli this year.

"If I keep working hard I hope I'll get the opportunity to play for a top European club next year," he told reporters." It would be an honour to represent Iran and Asia in Europe."

Previous Iranian winners of the AFC award were Khodadad Azizi in 1996, Ali Daei in 1999 and Mehdi Mahdavikia, who won last year. All three played in the German Bundesliga.

Adnan Hamd was named coach of the year after guiding war-weary Iraq to the Asian Cup quarter-finals as well as the last four of the Athens Olympics.

Japan were honoured as the continent's top national team after retaining the Asian Cup. Saudi Arabia's Al Ittihad were named as the top club team after capturing the Asian Champions League title earlier this month.

Japan's Homare Sawa was named the top women's player of the year.

oh yeah, he deserved it. congrats to him.

Posted by Shamez214 on Dec-09-2004 04:45:

I think that if he were on a European team, where the quality overall would stop him from being triple or quadruple teamed, he'd be awesome.

Posted by DJGolf on Dec-09-2004 22:27:

hopefully next year that he's done with his current club (al ahly).
