pig & dan interview

Hello Igor, Hello Dan
congratulations on you're new website and thanks for taking the time to do this interview.
shall we begin?

How and when did you get involved in house music? and what were you
doing before 'pig & dan'?

We both got involved from the very start of this whole thing!
In the eighties we were both training to be recording engineers in big studios where they produced pop/rock records.
After years of going through it we both discovered the sound of what was going to become something so much bigger than we all imagined!
(ACID HOUSE)
After years of working on squeaky clean pop records we fled to the sound of dirt and grunge of distorted TB909 kicks!
At this time we didnt know each other but were on the same path in different countries, and were both devoted to making tunes that a TB303s in it.
After time I (Dan) went into the drum and bass world and was together with the likes of LTJ Bukem producing and Djing all around the globe for six years.
Pig was at this time Djing in big parties in the Balearic islands and starting his own sound which is so present in our music today.

What kind of music do you listen to on your spare time?

Everything!
Everything with the word DUB in it anyway!
Marvin Gaye too Techno as long as theres feeling in it

Where does your inspiration comes from when producing new tracks?

Each other most of the time really! Apart from that we are fortunate to have an outstanding view of the mountains from our studio window.
You would think we would just write hippie music if you could see our surroundings!!!
However we are nutcases so we prefer to make banging tunes in the most tranquil environment

When you are about to go on for a new crowd, People who have never
seen you live before, what is going through your head?

Nerves! Its like the waiting to go to the dentist but when your on theres nothing like the energy transferred between people and its just the best vibe ever!
When your waiting its tense but thats soon gone when you are overcome with seeing people smiling and generally have a good time to our music.
Nothing as good or nerve racking as doing this for a living!!

What were your best & worst gigs?

Worst was Torque, it had four people in a venue for six thousand!!
Best was Liquid rooms Tokyo

Do you feel the need to incorporate new technologies into your sets,
thereby not just playing tracks from vinyl and/or CD, but adding more
of a live element into your sets, such as with Ableton Live?

We have an apple lap top with us now a days and that is the direction we are going in!
However we still record everything of vinyl and dont compress the files with Mp3.
This is the way forward in our eyes keep the sound but not the record box.
We both still think vinyl mixing is the best for feel!!!!

What do you have planned for the future?

The same as we do now but more if thats possible.

Why did you start submission? and as many people wonder, will you be
releasing music from artists other then yourselves on it?

We started Submission because we were fed up of getting ripped off by other companies and had to much product for the ones we could trust.
Pig&Dan are the only artist to date but now we have 3 new artists coming your way!
Within the next 3 months you will see Adon Oliviers new release and its a killer.
More signing to come.
Watch this space!!

Is there any presently unknown artist (or dj) you think we should keep
our eyes and ears out for?

Our favourites of the moment are already known in some parts.
Nathan Fake and James Holden ROCK
Great producers!!

Software vs. Hardware?
followup question: Do you mind giving us your gear list/favorite vst list?

Korg Monopoly,Juno 106,Fender Rhodes (All Real)
Logic pro with Albino, Zebra, Pro 53, Terra, Vanguard, plus loads of EXS 24 tings!!

We both worked on big SSL desks and so on but now you really can create a professional record on your lap.
You dont really need outboard any more in our eyes but it has an edge in some departments.
You can compensate with plugs and there on your lap

How do you feel about file sharing?

Terrible!
Its sad but easy

thanks again
with much due respect,
Psy-T
