Maybe it's a party for the Jewish people that don't celebrate x-mas

Their set was pre-recorded.

I don't think Astral played any records at all, let alone all the synths and keyboards they set up on stage... It was definetly a pre-recorded set b/c only one of the 5 ppl on stage would be doing something with the laptop at one time.

The other four would be downing the champagne or that 40 of JD and passing it only to certain girls... (Sly_Guy: INTOXICATION SITUATIONS!)

Let's not forget Avi (or whatever the hell his name is) was trying SO hard to make out with that Russian girl, JOKES!!!

is this a confirmaion?

then whats this about records skipping and what not

you guys are suppose to be tranceaddicts i htink you would at least konw that much

these guys have quite a good reputation.. their productions speak for themselves

if they were just acting "drunk" that night its not such a big deal and ithink they can easily be forgiven

read the reviews, especially jon[E2EK1EL] and perrin's[chinaman]. Both of them were watching them closely, and really I take their word for it. I wasn't there, but I hear they were just a bunch of drunken bafoons on stage with a pre-recorded set.

yeah but...were you getting paid to entertain?

Posted by Sly_Guy on Nov-22-2004 18:45:

it was suppost to be a live PA, but as far as chinaman told me, he watched them on stage virtually the entire time and didn't touch their synths once. It was just one guy periodically going to the laptop, indicating that it had to be pre-recorded. Record skips could have happened during their recording, or it could be a slight glitch in the sound signal to the speakers, who knows?
Yeah I understand people getting drunk, but when you're getting paid good money to put on a show in a club, being hammered to the point where you can't function in doing that show isn't acceptable. Just MO, but I wouldn't go see drunken idiots doing a live PA more than I'd go see a DJ who plays his newest mix CD or a band that lip-syncs.

I spent about 30 min watching them VERY closely. I was standing about 2 feet away on the left side of the stage (their left) and was actually behind them so I saw everything that they were up to....and believe me, it wasn't much. It was NOT a live performance unless you consider waving your arms in the air as creating something live. They had apple powerbooks and I could clearly see the scroll moving with all the tracks completely organized on screen. It was funny seeing them PRETEND to do a live PA by scurrying around and 'touching' some equipment here and there.

As far as the drinking goes, I really didn't like the way they acted. But my real issue was that any monkey with a laptop could have done AP's version of a live PA and could have been more professional about it.

does anybody have the link to the reviews? i wasnt able to come up with it, using the search

maybe they were just usin the mac as their sequencer while all the hardware was connected to it... obviously live pa is not 100 % live... they use loops and what not.. otherwise it woiuld sound like shit on a stick

although i wasnt there so i cant really say... what about the comment about record skipping? .. were they djaying as well?

Posted by DigiNut on Nov-23-2004 01:57:

I had the impression that there were technical problems that prevented them from getting their synth equipment working. From what I saw at the beginning, they spent a lot of time trying to set things up and eventually just gave up. Whose fault it was that the equipment wasn't working, I do not know. It's interesting that nobody ever bothered investigating.

They obviously could have done better - I think the real issue is that they didn't understand (or didn't care about) the venue they were in and the crowd they were playing to, and while their attitude might have been appropriate for an outdoor Goa party it definitely did not sit well in the Kool Haus.

Having said those two things, most of you need to take your heads out of your asses and realize that you can't do a live PA without functioning equipment, and you can't revert to a DJ set when you don't have your records. People came to hear Astral Projection, so they did what they could and [apparently] threw on an old set. I suppose most of you would have preferred for them to just throw their hands up and walk out on the audience? Just because you don't like Psytrance does not mean you shouldn't apply the same standards to AP as you would to any other group/DJ.

Their drunkenness is another story, but that's pretty routine for most DJs.

Posted by MarkT on Nov-23-2004 02:20:

^^^ I'm no DJ, but I'd have to guess that being wasted and trying to do a live PA is probably not a good combination

Astral Projection could use a lesson from Infected Mushroom on how to do a live PA and keep the crowd happy!
