In desperate need of...

...a little help please.

Heh, how many people thought that sentence was going to end with "a shag"??

Anyway, aside from the fact that I need a good lady friend, I need a little help from people who know what they're talking about when it comes to UK clubs and events and the like.

I'm doing a project for uni, and like every other unoriginal student on these boards, I've decided to make a website about EDM in the UK. So what I really need is a list of:

- Clubs in the UK (and their location, contact details, website addy, events they hold there)
- DJ's who have residencies in the UK (contact details, where they are resident)
- Major UK dance events (location, ticket prices etc)
- UK record labels (genres they sell, website addy)
- Online record stores (web address, obviously )
- Online DJ equipment retailers (web address)

I know my tunes, but I don't anything about labels and clubs etc, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Any information is cool, and I want to try and get a variety of different club locations, as well as a variety of labels that sell different styles of music. So any expertise is welcomed.

Cheers a bunch!!

by clubs i assume you mean venues rather then nights ? (referring to the above .. *cough* plug *cough*)

Posted by Streakfury on Nov-21-2004 21:57:

Lol, yeah.

Well, info about the venue (like it's location, prices etc) are good, but also some info on the actual nights they hold there is good too.

Also, does anyone know any of the main sub-genres of Techno and Breaks?? That would would help me out a lot too. Oh, and some websites where digital downloads are available, like Napster or AnjunaDigital.

A great site for digital downloads is Above the Sky Records Digital.

Link: http://www.atsdigital.com/

now as far as contact information goes for clubs in the UK.
I have a database at work which lists over 30,000 uk clubs.
how far do you want to go with your site?
are you sticking to one type of genre?
because a lot of those 30,000 clubs all play some form of EDM on one of thier nights.
for those that don't know, my work is very closey integrated with the nightclub industry.
And my company has supplied various systems to over 10,000 clubs in the UK.
My company is also a member of BEDA which is the
British Entertainment & Dance Association. Beda Website

so in conclusion, Streak, if you want me to give you some help, you need to be a little more specific about your site or this could get rather complicated.

Christ.

OK, well the emphasis of the website isn't actually on content, it's about my use of CSS, templates, javascript etc, so I don't need masses of information, I just need a bit of variety. What I need is:

- A few examples of record labels that sell trance, house, techno and breaks (any sub-genre is fine). So long as I've got a few record labels listed for each genre, that's cool.

- A name and website for around 10 clubs (venues) in various parts of the UK (North East // North West // South East // South West // Wales // Scotland // Ireland). The plan here is just to have a map of the UK divided up into the above sections, that the user can click on and be taken to a list of clubs in that area.

- A list of around 10 DJ's who play trance, 10 who play house, techno and breaks. I can manage that one though.

- For each of the clubs listed, I could do with the residents at that club too. If nobody knows them, that's fine, but I'll have to list some other famous DJ's and list their residencies (of which I know none lol).

- A list of a few major dance events (such as GKGG or Homelands) and their website.

- A list of online shops. I need a few that sell vinyls, and a few that sell the hardware (such as turntables). A few online stores for each of the four genres would be great.

I hope that's a bit more specific, and cheers for your help.

OK thanks everyone, I'm sure all this info will help. I've got a template for the site up an running now so hopefully I'll have it done over Christmas. I haven't put any actual content on the site yet so if anyone has a brainstorm and thinks of some useful links or decent nights out or whatever, feel free to add them still.
