Hello! My friend's production (Ambient/Jazz)

Hello everyone:

My friend, Ben Freed, who is a student at New School University in New York City studying Jazz, would like to share one of his most recent productions with you. The lyrics talk on many different levels, from pain around the world to righteous faith and upstanding integrity in the midst of inhumane persecution. Please let me know if you have any feedback. Thanks.

Here are the lyrics:

If you could take away my integrity
Then you might as well just take my body
Cause you can kill my life physically but you could never
Kill the soul inside of me
If they took away the clothes off my back
I might be naked but beyond that fact I got skin tough as nails
That will see me through
And I know I got what I need to keep my heart true
If they took away the food off my table
My belly would be rumbling but I would still be able to
Live off the energy supplied by the creator
The one who comes to earth and serves as the people's savior
I know it's not easy but
I keep my spirit high
And if they take everything
I'll still know how to survive
And if you have faith
You know just what I mean
It doesn't matter what you believe in
It keeps your soul clean

If you could take away my integrity
Then you might as well just take my body
Cause you can kill my life physically but you could never
Kill the soul inside of me

And if they took away my guitar
They could never stop the music
Cause it shines just like a star
In the microcosmic universe that is a human being
It's the soul inspiration that keeps my voice ringing
And if they took the truth
I'd stand up to take it back
Cause you can't fool the people forever
And that's a fact
If we all stood up
For our own sense of purpose
It would just make their attack on humanity
Simply worthless

And all my people know, I only spread love
And when I need help
I look to heaven above
And in the end we'll see
They can't take anything
So come and take my hand
As we let our voices sing

If you could take away my integrity
Then you might as well just take my body
Cause you can kill my life physically
But you could never kill the soul inside of me

If you take away my dignity
Then you might as well just take my body
Cause you can kill my life physically
But you could never kill the soul inside of me
If you could take away my humanity
Then you might as well just take away my body
Cause you can kill my life phyiscally
But you could never kill the soul inside of me

If you could take away my spirituality
Then you might as well just take my body
Cause you can kill my life physically
But you can never kill the soul inside of me.

So like what kind of feedback was he looking for?

Posted by spacechica on Nov-24-2004 00:51:

Hi Tranc3:

I'm actually still waiting to hear from him. I guess this is more an interest on my part. What do you think could be improved? He initially made this song for his friend's film, but added lyrics and harmonized the guitar melody.

Thanks for your reply.

Tell him that I suggest silent meditation.

I think the author is hoping to give a voice to the millions and millions of people around the world who are being suppressed by totalitarian regimes or corrupt governments, particularly to those who seem to not have a voice at this moment. Thanks for your feedback. Peace

hmmm, cool lyrics imo.

i loved the guitar and piano in this, nice melodies.

it did sound lowfi as whole, also the vocal wasn't always flowing nice.

beat could be more fuller, he should listen to Warren G , he sounds a bit like him if you compare voices hehe. (well a tiny bit )

For a jazz student, I find it surprising that he keeps to an incredibly simple chord progression...just 2 chords...

The percussion does sound rather lo-fi, and the hats sound distorted.

And eh, I'm not really a fan of the drawn out words (phy-si-ca-lly)

Sure, I'll give some feedback.

Basicly, everything is too mono. Make it more stereo. Do that by multi-compress it. (I think) Hmmm... It sounds like your friend is from China, because he isn't pronouncing the words perfectly. Especially the word "body". Is it Fai Light who is singing? Also, it's irritating that he chooses to pan the voice to the right in every verse. In the chorus, he sentralizes the voice.

I'm a snowboarder, and I watch a lot of snowboard-movies. Sometimes they have such songs as this one in them. Chilled, laidback. Sorry for being so negative in my feedback. Just trying to help
