Arrow Favourite Psychedelic

I'm pretty sure this thread will be ignored for the most part, as most people here don't know shit psy wise apart from Infected Mushroom and Astral Projection (don't take that offensivly), but there is a few here who do know the genre.

Since its 11PM, Friday, and I'm bored, I thought why not have a go. If you're a psy fan, whats some of your favourite producers? Tracks? Albums? Sub-Genres? etc..

I'd have to say, for albums, this year theres been lots. To name a few:

Pixel - Reality Strikes Back - I've been jamming this one alot recently, picked it up at Psyshop
Safi Connection - Figga Nigga - This album is pretty much pointless, unless you're having a party. It's fullon at its best. From melodic tracks, to fullon heavy metal gutair riffs, it's a bit of everything.
Talpa - The Art of Being Non - This album is unique. Great breakthrough producers. The album is a must listen.
Atmos - 2nd Brigade - This is the master of minimal/progressive psychedelic trance. This album is dark, creepy, and the atmosphere is one of its own.

Loads more, but I don't want a huge post.

My personal favourite producer of all time is Cosma. He unfortunatly died while taking a trip to Goa, India. He was in a motorcycle accident, hospitalized, but died. It's a real shame as he was an amazing producer and DJ. He was just finishing up his latest album, when he decided to take a break and go to Goa. The label released what was finsihed as a tribute to him.

His albums are:
Cosma - Simplicity
Cosma - Nonstop

My personal favourite is Nonstop, which was the one the label released. I suggest picking up this album if you're into full-on psy...as this is the last Cosma ever did. The best tracks on it are 'Keep Going' and 'Yok Yok'.

I do like Astral Projection... other than that, we have:

Hallucinogen
Etnica
Shpongle?

I want to get my hands on more psy, but it's so hard to get that kind of music in Canada... and I hate DLing albums.

i don't know some of the artists you quoted, for example Pixel, never heard it, yes for Atmos, 2nd brigade is a killer, but it has not the same atmosphere that Headcleaner especially track "fill the hat" which i really love! Otherwise, here some stuffs i can recommend you :
Toi doi - technologic (1998, old but still good),
Toi doi - sustentator, not my cup of tea anymore though,
SUN project - sexperimental , a good surprise, more progressive than their old albums,
Beat bizzare - Pandora's groove box, quite unique album,
Analog pussy - Trance N Roll, i found it a bit funny at the 1st listen, but eventually nice to listen to,
Phony orphants - Symphony, especially track 2 is wicked! The whole album is progressive,
Shiva chandra - Gecko , my all time favourite minimal psy album, track 3, 4, 5 are perfect!

enjoy.

Edit : i add Wizzy noise - Cyclotron, and Saiko-Pod - Phutures and options (track 2... )

Posted by Ian on Nov-27-2004 13:41:

personally I dig

Skazi
Eskimo
Protoculture
Space Tribe
Dino Psaris
Crunchy Punch
Astrix
1200 Mics
Deedra
Texas ******
Psysex
Son Kite
Talamasca

and a few others..... I'm pretty much just someone who dabbles in psy for 'other' listening when other genres piss me off tho

Posted by XYSHOOR on Nov-27-2004 13:53:

Infected Mushroom - Messanger is quite good IMO.

Posted by Ste on Nov-27-2004 14:26:

my fave psy tunes have to be:

x porters - back to back
infected mushroom - mush mushi

Posted by THE_Chris on Nov-27-2004 14:36:

1200 Mics
Electric Universe
Tikal
Astrix
Psydrop
Wizzy Noise

Posted by Flotser on Nov-27-2004 15:57:

The Muses Rapt - Spiritual Healing (original mix)

Posted by rooibos on Nov-27-2004 16:28:

Nice to see some people enjoy psy. :]

A very good CD I'm enjoying at the moment:

DJ Myst - Nothing Is Impossible

01. Exaile - Miss Justin
02. Polaris - Full Colour Tribal
03. Valhalla - Formatrix
04. Safi Connection - Sleepless
05. Necton - Cold Flake
06. Suria - Blue Moon
07. Full Colour Pierre - Big Cop
08. Rinkadink - Squeeky Synth
09. Wrecked Machine - Lost In Losaka
10. Echotec - Teleportation
11. Unknown - Unknown (Promo CDR)
12. Lemurians - Some Strange Days

Now, I'm aware some of these tracks are what you'd call n00b psy (Just be happy theres no Astral Projection or Infected Mushroom in it .), but its a bangin CD. It's a mixed compilation, hence why there is 12 tracks, though the mixing isn't perfect in some places. Highly reccommended.

You make me jealous, but I don't think the Quake 3 soundtrack is psy.

Posted by AlphaStarred on Nov-27-2004 16:33:

since im more into prog-psy, or minimal/psychadelic trance as you termed it, i'd have to say Atmos, Vision & Canedy, Krueger & Coyle, Minilogue, Tkac & Haverlik, and Buzzmonx are some of my favs. from that genre. Atmos 2nd Brigade LP fuckin owned me as soon as it was released...you can even check my old thread about it

as for some full-on, i'm not too fond of it but like it nonetheless, stuff from HOM-Mega, Dickster is a wicked up and coming producer too...

by the way, where is Cinos in that thread?

I was out shopping. Bought Trancemaster 1, and Juno Reactor albums Beyond The Infite and Shango, which brings me to my point:

Most tracks off BTI are good. Ice Cube, Guardian Angel and Rotorblade are really great. Shango is good too, but to lesser extent.

Then there's way too much stuff to mention. I'm not going to bother again.

Wheres Neo Logic? Those two (I believe its two) are fucking brilliant...very similar to Atmos, but has more psychedelic sounds in it, but keeps that Atmos sound.

Anyways, whats your opinion on tracks that use gutair riffs? I at first hated them, but they grew on me really fast, and add a huge amount of energy to a track if done right, especially if you're on a dancefloor.

Examples:

Suria - Blue Moon
Astrix - On Fire (Commercial, but this track is BANGIN!)
Safi Connection - Figga Nigga (Really unique to start out, then hits)
Safi Connection - Fullon String

Theres lots more, but thats all I can name off the top.

I love psy as well, but I'm more into the oldschool stuff. The new full-on releases does nothing for me. Old releases by groups like Eat Static, X-Dream, AP, Hallucinogen, Green Nuns Of The Revolution etc is the shit. I'm currently exploring the genre, so I'm sure there's plenty I've missed. Also, older psy/goa albums aren't very easy to get hold of.

For some tunes I'm digging atm, check my sig.

yea i forgot about their Groove Logic album...very wicked stuff..mix betwixt prog. and full-on hehe, listening to it now actually...

as for guitar riffs, i haven't heard them much in psy or prog-psy tracks, but i've not been too keen on them in other genres...but they've likewise begun to grow on me...so i daresay i'd probly enjoy them in psy stuff as well
