[Dark?] jex - Sheet of White (updated)

As I was flying home from visiting relatives for Thanksgiving, I looked out the window and saw the clouds, and they inspired me to write this song. That said, this song only evokes the image of clouds if your brain is as twisted as mine.

jex - Sheet of White
11:25
192 kbps mp3

One question that I have is, does the break at 3:39 come too quickly?

Any other comments/critiques welcome.

sounding dark indeed and like german minimal techno, kick needs way more powerful
all the sounds need better equalizing,
but thats funny how u picture clouds with this LOL !!! i like the sound coming in at 3:20 a lot, its really nice, and the melody doesnt come in too soon i think , i mean its already 4 minutes into the song , the breakbeat sounds really kewl, reminds me of tthe adam white - balerina song
so ya its kewl stuff, i dont picture clouds, but i do picture a bird flying in the sky high up, really kewl !!!
keep it up m8

Sounds interesting... I personally don't think your kick is too silent, I like it how it is. At 3:00 it is getting really interesting. You got some lovely synths coming in, but as Sunquest mentioned maybe the melody is coming in a bit late... but then the breakbeat part is very well done, took me by surprise...
Everything sounds very "deep" and somewhat "hollow", but that gives it all a nice dark atmosphere ...
The Pad coming in at about 4:55 is soooo nice... somehow dark and obscure but hope is always present... I love that deep and dark style
I personally think apart from some very small issues with EQing your track is refreshing and hi-quality. I want to hear more like that from you please!

Oh and I personally think more of an underwater expedition than of clouds, but it's just me

lolol clouds! hehe funny

There is a very distorted bass sound with reverb i think that i don't really like.

alot of low frequencies in this tune, or am i wrong?>

Yes introduce the melody way sooner. or something that should makes you wanne say ya i wanne keep listening.

Damn, what an awesome pad with the breakbeat, with what did you make that?

Main part sounds very cool, nice and dark!

Production need some work, but certainly not bad, quite original and all i can imagine is how pissed you are at these clouds, did they rain on you?

hehe...interesting sounds dude
0:27 - funny but original fx
3:39 - finally the style changed
4:10 - the bass in the background sounds really nice and the melody is really dark, psychodelic one (i like ones like this)....
but i have mixed feelings about first 3minutes of the song:/ sounds could be more effective but the whole songs is really interesting and nice...it has some drawbacks for me but it's my opinion and i think that only Blank&Jones produces perfect songs so keep up with songs like this
greetz and try my new track

Thanks so far. I'll look into doing something before the seventh minute mark to keep the song interesting. I don't want to introduce the melody too soon because the melody started where I felt led to start it, and I don't want to force anything.

The EQing and more rigorous mixing: I may actually commit to this this time around, just because I'm starting to get self conscious about my tracks being largely unEQ'd.

As far as the clouds go, they were pretty, goddammit!

Nothing too special. I just layerd four of the package pads that came with FL, fiddled with the filters a bit, and pan-whored like a maniac so that the sound wasn't static at any one point in time.

In the opening, yeah. That low end reverb thing that you didn't like was actually another of my hairbrained ideas; I put a slow attack on a low pitched kick synth and turned up the distortion.

Okay. I updated the track. Put in some extra panning stuff. Did some EQ work. I also added a little teaser at 5:00, although that might be a little quiet. Any more comments welcome.

0:00 - 1:00 Doof doof. build up with a blooby echo thingy for added fun.

1:00 - 3:00 Bass comes in with distortion. not much changes. The momentum is increased a little by a clap. Continues for a bit too long?? maybe add more rythme or some pads??

3:10 Is this the 'cloud' thing that everyone is talking about? I really like this. I like how you panned it around: it works extremely well.

3:45 great reverbed beat going on with the pads.

4:40. Kewl.

5:50. Pads come in. Beat kicks in. Now this is a kewl track. Im enjoying it now. (Maybe add more *thump* to the kick??)

7:40 - 8:20 best part of the track; the pinnacle. I like how the pads pitch change. you could even increase the level of the pads or add more: they bring great atmosphere to the song & highten the emotion.

I really liked this track. The tune is really really catchy. I ended up listening to this a couple of times. thanks for sharing Jex. I enjoyed that tune
