Oakenfold!!

"what the fuck is going on" was chanted all fuckin' night!

an insane party to say the least.... left at 4am and it was still pumping.

oakie came on at 2am and opened with world on fire, junkie xl club remix. tore it up with traffic, southern sun, and his grown out hair!

an amazing night... looking forward to tiesto - and the docks' newly renovated - killer soundsystem!

drunk as fuck and wondering,
"what the fuck is going on!"

*bang*

Yes, very great set. I'd heard nothing but complaints about Oakie being hit or miss these days, and we got the hit

Finally remembered the Lyrics to Southern Sun and got it (didn't know the name).

Anyone know the second-last track in his set?

Great hanging with the TAs before it got packed and then on the stage... before IT got packed too. Had to wander off and find some space for myself Those dancing boxes or whatever are great on a packed night... if you ever get the chance and need some room to breathe... climb up on one of those.

rofl i was like WTF when traffic came after world on fire. his legend (the world doesn't know --> traffic) continues. but it didn't sound all that bad. personally i think MO topped the night. hands down.

tracks oakey played:

world on fire JXL remix
traffic
children of the sun
southern sun
beautiful day
believe 2004 smith and pledger remix
way out west - killa

there are a bunch that i cant remember now but will remember soon!

and damn it was too packed. and the rain outside didn't help at all. my friend already caught a cold :/

and thanks to the TUNE MAN putting up the tiny banner hahahaha

i said "im never coming back to guv" after UNCLE gig, but last night i went back for my friend. now im gonna say it again and this time i'll stick to my words, im never going back to guv.

that is not fun anymore, overpacked, too hot, and what is up with smoking area?? i went out 3 times and was all wet, couldnt they put some roof or whatever there.

guv has become top 40 club of edm crowdwise, i had to leave around 5 cause i was so agitated with all them pushing "what the fuck are you looking at" punks. i mean IF line is not moving its NOT like somebody stopped in the middle of the club to talk or whatever, its CAUSE it was overpacked, and then some bastards started pushing and talking shit. man, im glad that i went home.

i dont understand why is guv doing this, what about koolhaus, everybody knows if you bring big name dj to town (ie oakenfold) its gonna be rammed, so why dont move party to kh????

i understand its a money making machine but like that ???

pft, fuck that, never again will i go there.

music was so-so, trance doesnt do it for me anymore.

p.s. im not bitchin, im just telling how it is, one day something can happen there (od, heat stroke, heart attack, fire, whatever) ant please tell me what will happen when everybody start running towards exit?????

Posted by dEsidEL on Nov-28-2004 21:38:

wells i'm actually quite disappointed that i didn't go, but after Friday night i was totally spent ..

hopefully the next time he comes around they do throw him in the Koolhaus like they did with Heineken Thirst ..

i thought it was gonna be KL too when they started promoting it i got so rammed, elbowed time and time again but big guys not cool

OKIE nailed it last night!! but I was really surprised with Liquid Todd....an amazing set...and MarkO was as usual, amazing... got there at midnight. The place was jammed packed by the time Okie came on. and then it started raining outside and then everyone from the patio was inside. So you can imagine.. None the less, a great night! Left around 7:30, the place was still quiet full.

see you at Tiesto

I'm a non smoker & I would wonder WHY the GUV didn't spend the extra $$$ to put up a cover/tarp over the smoking area...When it gets super cold out then what will the GUV do

Man I'm i glad I didn't go to this

Just got home (London) from the hotel and chilling in Toronto.

I arrived last night about 10:45 and holy shit it was already filling up. By the time Liquid Todd came on at midnight it was the general full crowd.

Liquid Todd had a nice opening set for Oakie. Energy levels were dropping midway through but he picked it back up near the end.

Then you saw the man himself setting up backstage. His newly grown out hair so you knew it was him. The intensity building as Liquid Todd started banging it hard. Then there it was. Oakie dropped in with "Sarah McLachlan - World On Fire (Junkie XL mix)" and holy crap the crowd lost it. The people up front with the big signs screaming out "TUNE" were awsome. It was rammed packed at this point. Sweaty bodies everywhere mashing as one together in trance unicine. It was a little packed and annoying with all the retarded cracky-asians pushing and shoving, but whatever. Oakie pumped out "DJ Tiesto - Traffic" right after "... Fire" and I'm sorry, I just lost it. From that point on I totally lost myself in the music. When he dropped my tune of the month, "Dogzilla - Your Eyes" I just went ballistic. I've never danced so hard for a set before. He had a choice set, very well done. To be honest, his set seemed lacking in the mixing range though. Very short and quick, hardly any overlay, but his track selection totally made up for it.

At this point Mark came on opening with the same set as last time I was there with Junkie XL/Rank 1 which was "DJ Tiesto - Ancient History" which of course I love. After this I had to sit down for a while. It was still poaring outside so I had to end up meshing in with the E-head asians up on the lounge stage for a bit. To be honest, Mark was just killing it. Throwing out tune after tune...just amazing (as per usual). I left about 5:30am right after "Jump the Next Train" as I totally danced myself out to Oakie's set and couldn't do anymore.

Great seeing all the TA's out (too bad I missed you Shaya but thanks for the GL).

Question, what track was it that Oakie played where it was the same song as the vid I have titled, "Johan Gielen - Live at Viva Nightclub - Madness on the Decks - 03-07-2003". Love that track.

I'm heading to bed for a nap now. Great night everyone

because the city wont let it happen thats why

These smoking laws are pure bullshit and now you see the result. And it will only get worse now that the province has introduced legislation to ban indoor ventilated smoking rooms. But hey thats democracy in action for you right?

I was there for Mark's opening set. He played great as usual. I had a first time guv person with me and all she could say was holy crap!! And that was before the light show even started. All i could say to her as we stood in the booth was "this is nothing, wait till you see later on when the lights get crazy"

After Mark's set i went into the drink and listened to manzone and strong. I wasn't much interested in the guests that night anyways and M&S were doing a great job

WOW Last night was friggin AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Well it got really rammed pretty early and at one point it was rammed inside and yet there was still a really big lineup that went from the main doors around to the street and almost reached THE DRINK front door and lots of people couldn't get in because it was just too full. Busy times out front for sure.

Liquid Todd played much better than expected considering how I didn't expect much from him and all.Paul Oakenfield didn't disapoint and from got the crowd hyped up from get go and when when he put on Traffic everyone went nuts and the whole place was dancing like crazy all night which is good to see. The vibe was electric and unbelievalbe and set early.

Oakenfield got the crowd going and did little thing to get the crowd worked up like looking at the customers who were on top of the go go boxes and giving them thumbs up and doing the same with the people who were on the stage and throwing his arms up in the air and stuff so he didn't seem to be the cranky guy who doesn't look at the crowd which is how some described him as before. He played some really good and hard stuff and wow it was good

WOW Mark Oliver played some really good stuff and killed it and at at 7am he stopped playing for a while and then the crowd wanted more and he terrorized the decks for another hour and 15 minutes!! Many people thought Mark Oliver outplayed Paul Oakenfield even though Oakie played great as well and at like 6:30 some people still thought it was Oakenfield playing which shows that Oliver was playing at a equal or better level than Oakenfield and there was no drop off in dj quality at all with Oliver taking over after Oakenfield.

I was stuck in THE DRINK for a while and Manzone and Strong played great and it was interesting to compare their version of "Murder Was The Bass" to Mark Oliver's later on.I believe Addy was spinning at one point as well. Lots of hot chicks on that night for sure and I picked up 2 with one having big boobs and one having a big ass so combined they would be my ideal chick LOL Too bad they and just about everyone else there wasn't from the GTA or immidiate surrounding area so I guess I will get a calling card LOL.

It was kinda funny to see some of the customers who were dancing on the go go dancing boxes out dance some of the go go dancers One chick near the exit bar box was doing some belly dancing type stuff and killing it with her hips and busting out some stripper moves which was very nice

All in all a very good night and GUVERNMENT is undoubtedly still one of the top clubs in the world By the way GUVERNMENT has an in door smoking room in the D'LUXE Lounge which is upstairs so you didn't have to smoke outside.
