Read This! How much would you pay for an MP3?

This topic was brought on another WebSites music forum and I was curious to know what amount is a fair amount to pay for an MP3. The majority of the responses on the other website was "zero" - most of the people who responded said they didn't want to pay anything to download an MP3. I think a dollar per MP3 is fair; eventually you are going to have to pay something to the artist anyway. I download MP3's like everyone else...I'm just trying to think of what amount I'd be willing to pay if the day came when downloading MP3's for free was history.

Confused Phh.

I've got my tables... I don't need to pay for MP3's.
If it came down to it, I'd just rip 'em off the vinyls..

I should have said $1 is just a figure off the top of my head...I'm just saying that I'd be willing to pay something; even a monthly type of subscription fee - and you'd better believe that I'd be getting my moneys worth!

If I could be sure that the money was going to the artists and not the record companies or audiogalaxy/whatever then I would be willing to pay, say, 5 bucks which would entitle me to 50 downloads or something.

Sneaker Pimp

2 cents/mp3...

well maybe a bit more, but i dont think it'll happen for a while that we'll have to pay for mp3's

It'll never be stopped so i'd be stupid to pay for them!

I support artists that i feel deserve it now .. ive got close to 4k mp3s .. thats alot of money..

But through vinyl and buying cds .. the artists i think deserve it .. get it!

Cuz its hard to filter out all the crap out there .. just think u'd pay 1 buck to hear zombie nation and realize it was gay?

Confused

what if it's a really long mp3? like LongLiveset.mp3 hehe
just kidding, i'd pay for a song i like,. but I end up deleting 90 percent of the stuff i dl anyway. .25 cent a good song, there mate

It wouldn't make sense to pay for mp3s because there's always a possibility that they might get deleted or lost. Also, there will always be hackers who will make them available to everyone else.

And isn't the whole point of an mp3 to listen to it so that you can buy it if you want it? THAT is what mp3s should be used for, to sample songs and make it easier to buy records. If it wasn't for mp3s, most of those online record shops would be out of business.

I'd pay the electricity bill which powers my computer...that's nuff for downloading mp3z...no way i'd pay more then that.

I buy albums and support the artists by going to the shows...and I'll buy vinyls but no way am i paying for mp3z...that shit is always going to be free.

Me too i support Artists by going to their shows

Posted by PhaseFour on Oct-20-2001 03:12:

well...i would pay 75 US Cents for each mp3, but i would pay more if i like it...for example

veracocha- carte blanche (my fav ever): maybe seventy five cents plus 5 bucks

atb- 9pm till i come: 75 cents PLUS ZERO!!!!!!!!

but thats a horrible idea since i already buy CDs and stuff, and i would goto shows if i were older than 15 and if my town had any clubs that acutally play trance lol.

my two cents (lol get it?)

I'm sorry, but I could never pay for MP3s. For one thing, there isn't a music store that sells trance CDs within 300 miles of me (I've checked, believe me!), so if I don't d/l music, I don't have anywhere to get it. The only singles that I've seen in the past year are Ian Van Dahl, Dee Dee, Rui Da Silva, Safri Duo, and Plummet, all of which I've purchased to support sales, etc. For that reason alone, I don't feel like I'd end up depriving a lot of artists of much-needed money, seeing as d/l ing music online to try it out is the way I see if a single is worth buying.

I you ask me, this discussion is useless. Even when it would come to paying for mp3's, there will always be guys, who buys CD's, and grab them in mp3's and sharing them with any file sharing program, just the way it is now. And you can start talking about controlling it, but that's just impossible, cause there are too many mp3's.

Maybe the only solution is to create a totally new music data system...but when there's a mind to create it, there will always be a mind to find a solution for it.

Long life the freedom of downloading...

I believe it is my God given right to listen to whatever I want whenever I want however I want, and I can support whatever artists I want. I won't pay, I'll steal first, if I like it, I'll buy. It encourages the world of musicians to make music I like or be broke.

I live in an area where Trance CD's are available, but I still can't find all the ones i want...so I'm forced to download MP3's.
