New Unknown Tracks Feature

What are your opinions on this new feature? (The link to a random unidentified track at the bottom of the threads).

Personally, I think it's another good addition to allow the expertise of the site to be pooled into a section of the site that many never visit. (Similar idea to having a link to the FAQ section inside the Chill Out Room, I guess.)

Opinions?

Its pretty sweet. I just noticed it tonight. I wasn't sure if it had always been there and I had overlooked it.

Since it is a headache getting Unknowntracks.com working - and cuz of all its requirements - only a small handful of ppl actually bothered to use it... At least this way everyone on the forums can listen - and - listen to samples of IDed tracks so they can familiarize themselves with some of the tunes and/or listen to different artists.

Thanks Ian, lol

Posted by Floorfiller on Nov-30-2004 17:16:

oh thanks for pointing that out...that's awesome...i always love listening to the samples hehehe

Posted by THE_Chris on Nov-30-2004 18:45:

Maybe keep it to samples that are under a year old.

Otherwise people will ID old stuff that everyone knows and the Unknown Tracks forum will be clogged with mountains of ancient bumped threads

Great idea tho

Posted by Romain on Nov-30-2004 18:51:

that's great

If a track is flagged as Unknown it is because it remains Unknown (aka - thread is not closed) - so, no point in limiting things time wise.

Is there any way you can produce an html page with a huge list of all the stream links? So people can just browse through them. Just an idea... I'd use it anyway

/edit - haha i just found one with mauro picotto - pulsar playing but navigated away from the page before i recognised it.. d'oh! that's gotta be quite old

Wow.. that's a good idea I'll do that now.

Posted by isoterra on Nov-30-2004 19:15:

Hmm also... if there's a sample of an already ID'd older track (where the thread hasn't been closed yet)... should people just bump the respective thread? Perhaps there could be a sticky thread where people can link to them so mods can then close them, if that would save on mass-bumping

Had this one come up at the bottom of a page just now:

Posted by Swamper on Nov-30-2004 19:19:

Sure, bump if u want.

Complete list of unknown samples here:

It is kind of ugly looking but it'll do for now

I was just going through some of these and some have been IDed already and are still on the page.

Yes.. that was part of the reason behind all of this - over the years some tunes have already been IDed but the thread has not been closed - so it still shows as been unidentified. Our mods can't catch everything

thanks to that ive just been listening to a little over 200 clips i think.

and to help with the work, here are some threads that got id'd but are still open:
1
2
3 4
5 (w00t, i id'd this one)
6 (+1 for me, w00t)
7
8
9
10
11 (another by me, i rule )

anyways, the feature of having a random id tune at the bottom doesnt appeal to me, cause i am in tranceaddict for visual entertainment, not audio,, i have way too much music to listen to anyway.
but composing it as a list, now that's an awesome idea,,
if i wanna have an id session, atleast i dont need to open threads one by one.

so, good work swampy (so imasculating, lol)
