Xenocreator - Freaking Streak

*edited*

Hiya all.

This track has been updated. It is now a 160 kBit mp3; much better quality than what it was. Give it a listen & tell me what you think. Critism welcome

Download me: Freaking Streak

can't give any constructive critique, really liked this one though

Hey come on, post a high quality sample!

Nice guitarish synths. You should use the reFx Slayer plugin for some of those.

If you are going for this kind of unique feel, then I won't say add hi hats and snare. But I think the song would benefit from some kind of snare, be it syncopated or weird sounding...

I wonder what this song sounds like when one is under the influence...

reFX slayer plugin hmmm .... ill look into that.

Yup i am aware of the missing hi hat. I did that deliberately - (well I didnt add the 'clap' because im not a very big fan of it). i wasn't sure if i had gotten away with it, but since you mentioned it, i might look into it. cheers

LOL yerrr this is a pretty trippy tune when your wasted. hehe thanks for the feedback

Cool!

I'm really diggin this - dirty & funky ... a great combo.

I don't think you should up the tempo, it works so well as a slow mean monster. But I'm DYING to hear this with a thick snare... I think it would give the song so much attitude!

I think if you add the snare, and a few more perc layers you'll have a rocking unique dirty prog tune!

Really refreshing to hear some different stuff like this - keep up the fine work.

Yay, more Xenocreator! I can trip on this stuff without drugs!

This kick is going to piss my sister off so much.

Sounds like some electro track run through angry distortion and flangers. So weird.

It did piss her off! Good job!

You might want to compress the kick, come to think of it, because it's clipping and distorting a lot.

5:28, a really awesome sound starts up.

This is a tremendous improvement over your last two pieces. Much longer and more complex and interesting, and you managed to hold onto the morbidly trippy style that you showed in the first two. If anything, I would just look into the clipping. That's about it, really.

HEHE glad to be of assistance to piss off your sister!!

Im contemplating on changing the kick. Im not sure it fits the track either. It sounds funny on my moniters & doesnt give the desired subwoofer *umph* if you know what i mean.

5:28 is my fav part of the track too. something about that chirpy rif

Im glad you liked it. thanx for the feedback Jex

Wow, this is wierd!
I'm not gonna ask which drugs were involved into the creation process :P

Sounds very unique to me... a bit stressing maybe, but by far the most original "Trance" tune I've heard so far . the guitar part at around 1:45 is extremely nice. ReFX Slayer is a good instrument, but I think the guitar sound is good how it is, you don't need to change it. However, the kick is a bit too muffled, I think it needs a bit more 'click'... the track is very groovy, but maybe another percussive element would make it even better.
And both thumbs up for the track, especially for those pads in the background.

Posted by pho mo on Dec-05-2004 13:43:

under the influence, and fucking great!

trying to make some sober comments now ...
beat is slightly weird, I do agree about a snare; you cannot underestimate the dancing power of beats 2 + 4 in a bar!!!
the synths are great. [0:24] bass synth that comes in is groovy; at [0:40] now you've got some seriously groovy bass. Excellent!
wicked sounding at [1:44]. track evolves very nicely at [6:30]

it's really hard to compare this track to others; it is very original. but in my limited opinion i think there's too many breakdowns; the track loses some movement without a snare, and with there being quite a few times without the kick means the energy is lost somewhat. the fact that i am sitting here on my ass in front of a computer probably invalidates what i just said

overall i really enjoyed listening, an original tune to say the least, and i'm looking forward to tracks 6 to 10! may the mayhem continue!

Very cool production man!
This is defiantly something I could listen to while getting stoned. Some weird ass sounds and effects you got going thereAnd when its all combined with the groovy bassline it really makes you go dizzy (In the good way I mean) .

It sounds like no other tune I heard before, like some down-tempo techno really cool and original.
Me likes a lot!!

It would be nice to hear a higher quality version of this
Thanks for sharing!

I still havent got my hands on this ReFX Slayer. I dont think ill change the grunting distortion in this tune. I am curious to hear what this ReFX sounds like though.

I am in process now of changing the kick. Im replacing it with a totally new kick. It sounds heaps better on my monitors. (I think my cans deceved me before. It sounded great in them, but as soon as I whacked them on the monitors it was muffled as hell - even worse as an mp3.

Thanks alot for the feedback cybernetica. I am a fan of your dark unique tracks & cant wait to hear more of them. That Dominion tune was erie & nuts

Thanks to teh mighty pho mo!!

Some really excellent points raised there. I think your right about how the track losses a bit of energy with the parts without the kick. I am thinking I will reduce the breaks to only 2 places.

Sold on teh snare . Ive already added it!!

hahaha sweet! It took me a while of messing around to get the sound I liked. I was just pretty much aiming to make myself vomit & then when I finnally got a headache from a sound I thought "Yup, this is teh sound for teh job!"

I think this mp3 version is pretty low quality. Ill have to post a higher quality version once Ive updated the track.

Thanks DJ-Kreing for the compliments ] much appreciated!

I've finally made the changes to the track. The Bass Drum has been revised, hi hats have been added, the tempo has been increased to the right speed & lots of other tweeks & adjustments have been made.

Oh, yerrr; & the mp3 quality is much better.

Happy Listening

wierd beginnning... well.. eh.. the whole track is wierd.. i think its disharmonic.. its cool that u try to make something different... but I dont like tracks without structure which I dont thing this has.. but on the other hand I dont think its intended to be with structure or harmonics.. just experimental.. cant say this is a bad track.. i like some parts of it.. but it gets to messy for my tastes.. sounds alomst like its live even..

edit: i think it could have been like 10 minutes... the last part wasnt so bad.. when u get used to the sound..

I would like to hear ur next track as well

Posted by sooper on Dec-20-2004 22:08:

Hey man,

Well, you've taken this song to a whole new level. Its SO groovey!! Lots of great changes, and it never gets boring - something new & different always happens. The song certainly evolves as it plays out.

My one & only suggestion is to give the snare more of a WHACK to it..

Fine work man - I really am looking forward to hearing more of your stuff,
Trevor

belated reply (Ive just updated the track again)

LOL. yerrr the structure may be strange to some. I suppose my background has alot to do with that. Imagine what would hapeen if you mix Tool, Shpongle, (Old) metallica, Hallucinogin, Meshuggah & Oforia together in a psyco music mix! I spend maybe a little too much time mixing the song & over analizing the elemental layering & positioning. Youll find that most of my songs finish just how they begun; doing a revolution.

Thanx for the feedback Subtle; it is much apprectiated. I'm thinking I might extend that end bit a little longer

Thanks Trevor.
Ive changed the bass drum again & added some more hihats. Fiddling makes teh world go round!

Something's different about the bass. It doesn't seem as Groovy as it was. It's harder to pinpoint the tone that's playing.

The new hats definitely make for a much more interesting sound, though.

yup, I took out the the intro & extended the arse end; which took out the initial 'groove' of the song. But I think I prefer it this way.

Your right about the hats. They bring alot to the song.

Thanx again Jex.

Uhm, this was... interresting? Never heard anything like this before. Lots of wierd sounds and melodies put together in a 4/4 electro beat. Takes a wicked mind to make something like this! A friend of mine will love this!
