Cutting/ editing audio

Hi guys wanna ask about the above topic

i was editing a piece of dance music yesterday...
For example, removing certain parts that i dont like and inserting other portions to the areas i cut off...

Im not particularly very good in cutting up audio but the final edit sounded alright like with no sudden drop or changes....

but when i mixed it into the intro of another song... i realised that i either over or under cut it so i lost or gained a few millisecs and the transition wasnt smooth

when I am doing cuts like that, I put markers (M-key puts a red line at cursor location) on the beats. I then zoom in and get those markers as exact as possible. Once you have 2 markers in place, you can double click between the 2 and it will highlight that area. I then play that in a loop to make sure it sounds good and that I am exact enough in my marker placement. I then do the cuts I need based on that, usually, of 32 or 64 beat counts. I make sure to maintain the 32 or 64 beat feel of it (depending on the song, as most of what i cut are prog / trance when i need to) and if i need to cut like 8 beat or 16 beats, I will reconstruct a 32 or 64 beat loop in another window and then cut that loop in.

Heheh, I've had similar problems before, that fortunately didn't lead to too much embarrasment. As far as I know there's no automated way of doing this, you just want to zoom in as close as possible and try to get it as good as you can.

G... so u are saying there is no choice but to rely on ur ears to determine the accuracy of the cut?

is there like a standard rule like cut before the attack of the beat comes in?

and do u guys do any filtering or eqing cos i fond the the Hi hats sustains into the kick... so it kinda odd when u do a clean cut...

what do ya say?

I cut on the beat. If you find the 32 or 64 beat loops, the sounds that sustain through the beat will still be there as the repetitiveness of the song will ensure this. There are a few instances where this does not work, for that, you will just need to build your loop and splice that in.
