Basement Club

ok, so I'm getting $600 for christmas and my friend is getting $300. We want to put that together and make a club in his basement. Since I am only 14 and he is 12 we will only be allowing 11-15 in the door .

The $600 will go towards used technics on ebay.
We Have:
-Club Speakers
-Amp
-Mixer

All of the $300 more will go to some cheap chauvet lights from musicians friend or somewhere. I've seen some pretty good music activated lights for $60 - $ 80 each and a $40 fog machine. Clamp those to the cieling and put plug them in. I think that should be enough in the meantime. We will be charging like $3 a night (every other week) or like a $25/year fee so we can upgrade things.

I will get permission from all neighbors...well I don't think I need it since they live at least 100-200ft away and sound usually doesn't pass through solid ground easily

Lineup will be me, neighbor and some guy that lives here.

We will have to check for drugs and alcohol because we don't want to get in trouble for that

Say...7PM - 11PM Every Other Weekend

Do you think people would come and come back? It's probably not going to be all trance...probably some hip hop, pop stuff in the beginning and then sliding into progressive, then trance.

Regards.

I was laughing pretty hard when you sent this to me on msn. I remeber how you clamied you were a drug dealer and it was common pratice to grow weed in your front lawns and no one would give a shit. Also you were selling ounces for like 15 or somthing.

Anyways, good luck with it. You should be able to find some pretty bangin' lights off the net somewhere, just use your parents charge card. Why do you need money for technices? You told me ages ago you have two decks and a mixer?

oh yeah, a word from the wise. Be careful what you have out. When people are around things can just walk away.

lol
if we did that in the uk we would get arrested-probably under anti-terrorism laws

Fair play to you chief!
Dont forget the lava lamps

Posted by onceler on Dec-03-2004 13:58:

If you did that in the chicago, you could get charged for such things as opperating a dancing establishmen w/o a license. you pretty much need a license for everything you charge for here....

but like the rest, i did get a great laugh out of it

Posted by Nemesis44 on Dec-03-2004 14:12:

Hey man, dare to dream! That's what I say.

Go for it. Just be cautious of the fact that if you charge people you have laws that apply. Also things don't always run smoothly and you never know who you will get along. Make sure that you have someone there that can enforce your 11-15 policy not to mention the fact that your security isn't a problem of it's own (i.e don't employ psychos).

Good luck to you though.

Cheers
Nem

lol......are your mom and dad going to be bouncers?

but seriously....these are the type of kids who will someday open their own businesses and whatnot...i say go for it!

Posted by D Dubya on Dec-03-2004 17:47:

Sounds like a good time I guess. I would not be letting kids i don't know in my basement though. that creeps me out and the fact they might rob you blind really sucks. something to think about. good luck with it though.

you aint cool unless you've owned and operated a club by age 15...

Posted by D Dubya on Dec-03-2004 19:18:

There are some things you have to watch out for in your club:

a) Fights might break out between kids hopped up on lollipops. Keep an eye out in case someone bumps into someone else and their apple juice spills.

b) Don't let anyone drive home drunk. In this case, don't let anyone drive home, because they are not old enough.

c) Make sure you treat your VIPs right. If they are going to drop their whole allowance on you, make sure it is worth their 10 dollars.

d) Only let hot girls in your club. Hot girls attract customers. Only let those who have started wearing their training bras in. No tits, no tango.

That should keep ya straight for now.

Hmm...when i was 15 (hey wait that was just a few months back)
I wouldnt have used a 12 year old friend's money, in some sort of...thing like this. (of course i had no friends that young)
Unless youre a stupid 15 year old, you should know that theres a large mental gap between 12, and 15.
You shouldnt take advantage of the kid for his money.

Posted by SUNWmsf on Dec-03-2004 20:34:

maybe instead of charging an *entrance* fee, you should ask for donations. When someone donates money, you give them one of your `readily available` mixed cd's.
The benefits of that could be that you will now have motivation to make a good mix cd to hand out. You will get alot of DJ practice working on that cd.

On the other hand, I personally dont know many peeps that would pay money to kick it with 11-15 other people in a basement. If i was 15 yrs old, i dont know if i would pay $$ to chill in a basement with 11-15 people. I may be inclined to donate some money to a fellow DJ as young as yourself(that is if you are serious about your dj'ing and its not a phase in life thing.)

my $0.02 -

LOL, I was laughing even harder reading this replies from when he told me.

Posted by Gunyouken on Dec-03-2004 21:35:

$600.. I wish I had that kind of cash when I was 15... hell I don't have that kind of cash now.

Posted by Ken_Allen on Dec-04-2004 00:06:

Hey...we already got around 50 people to 'say' they would come. I don't know if I'll charge admission or not...probably not but hey, need some money to get new stuff. Basement can hold like 100 people and the kid suggested the idea too me and I said go for it so he said we'd put our money into it

Definitely, My senior year I threw a party at my place and a good friend of mine(so I thought) walked out with a 300 disc cd changer and a tuner. $1000+ worth of shit. Of course drugs were involved, and I've since learned my lesson in having crackheads(not literally but pretty damn close) as friends.

Be careful who you invite.
Get someones older brother to watch out for people with itchy hands, and to kick em out if shit goes south.

you may want to test it out with a small crowd, for free, with the equipment you have and see how it goes.

Props to you for your entrepreneurial(sp?) spirit at such a young age. Good luck and watch out for John Q. Law.

Dont get greedy and invite everyone and their mother or your "club" is likely to go down real fast.

Posted by djshan on Dec-05-2004 09:15:

wow. i wish you good luck, but like everyone said, dont break the law. i am also building a "club" in my basement, but its not a club club. its more like a home studio, and a mini dance floor with one laser light and a few others. i am not inviting people that i dont know, and i am not making any business out of it, just having fun. its only meant for me and maybe some frends if they chose to come over.
