Paul van Dyk live tomorrow night?
he's due to play a set at 04.00am to 06.00am (8pm GMT to 10pm GMT) in Singapore at a dance festival http://www.zoukclub.com/, and their website say they might be broadcasting the set
Posted by |cEbLu3 on Dec-03-2004 14:39:
yup the festival is called ZoukOut
timo maas, seb fontaine, and satoshi tomiie will also be spinning
Posted by swisstoni_uk on Dec-03-2004 20:27:
anyone got any idea if this will be broadcast then?
Posted by Swayzak on Dec-03-2004 20:30:
who cares.
you know Paul Van Dyk will play the same 45 tunes hes been playing the last 4 months even though he carries around a record box which is 1 GB

His tracklists are proof. If you dont see overlap than you need glasses.
even though he carries around a record box which is 1 GB
he champions the use of Final Scratch and its flexibility but performs like hes carrying one small record bag.

put up a playlist from 4 months ago and one from this week & youll see little or no overlap.

I don't see anything wrong with having favorite tracks you play in different gigs. It's a pretty neutral thing. It doesn't make you a better or a worse DJ. He has his signature sound. There's nothing wrong with playing the same tracks he played the other night in a different order with a couple of new ones. Worse, would be if he were just copying the playlists from the Billboard charts and only playing those tracks. If you don't wanna hear the same tracks being played, then don't see the same DJ every night.
The fact that he plays the same good tracks each set would probably be advantagious for most people. If they really enjoyed a PvD set one night. They'll probably see him again in hopes that he'd play the same good tracks again.
It's kinda like the radio. If you they hear a good song on there, they'll probably stick to that station in hopes that they would play it again.
I, personally like Paul's approach to sets for that very reason. You know you do too If you liked one of his sets that had phat tracks on it, you'd wanna hear some of them again when you go see him play.
[As for the 1 gig comment] ::
I don't think you can fit very many tracks into 1 gig. As a big DJ, Paul's reputation relies on playing the tracks well, and playing them at their utmost quality (meaning he's not going to play crappy 128k mp3s). If he were playing some full quality wav files on Final Scratch, he could only fit about 20 tracks into 1 gig.
