Love is in the air This modular theremin looks cool!!!

Just been trawling e-bay for second hand synths when I came across this 'electro-theremin' that looks a bit like a Minimoog, it looks a beast!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....ssPageName=WDVW

It has no keys but uses a big ribbon style controller I think. The modular panel looks pretty cool as well.

Unfortunatly it's actually a book that tells you how to build one, I might have to get my soldering iron back out and have a go!

I've got far too many VSTi's, it's about time I had some real hardware in my studio!

do you even know what a Theremin is?

I wouldn't recommend this for producing trance... at all..

Quote from the auction:
quote:
Includes comments on the final design from Bob Moog, pioneer of the synthesizer!

Robert Moog didn't invent the Theremin synthesizer, Leon Theremin did. And if they're referring to the synthesizer as a general term, he didn't do that either. Although it is not officialy proven, it is agreed upon by most music historians that Leon Theremin's Theremin was the first synthesizer - invented in 1919

If anything, Robert Moog invented the modular synthesizer (a synthesizer with all the knobs and such).

One thing I found to be quite interesting about the popularity of the Theremin, which peaked in the early 30s when Leon Theremin played it at Carnagie Hall in NYC, is that it didn't lead to any new generes of music or was even intended to. It mostly played the string or vocal parts of classical pieces. It took decades for the synthesizer to be used in the creation of new genres.

You people need to learn some history

Naah, he cant be the one that invented the modular synthesizer..

A modular synthesizer is a synthesizer with loads of cords that connect different modules..

Well, i guess a synthesizer with regular knobs is just called a syntheziser.. I don't really know another name for it :P

But yeah, you are probably right that he created the first (or one of the first) compact all in one synthesizers, the Minimoog

It's kind of funny that all the modern synths are trying to recreate the sound of the original but no one can make it sound the same, ok they can come close but not make a replica

Nearly the exact words of Robert Moog himself

Is that auction selling the actual machine or a book that enables u to build it?

If you want to build a Theremin, there are enough schematics and guides on http://www.thereminworld.com/default.asp
