Derek Howell - Funk It (Original & Breaks Mixes)
Derek Howell - Funk It (Original & Breaks Mixes) [Fade Records]
The Original Mix begins with the typical powerfull Derek Howell beat, pretty soon the word "funk" in the title becomes clear, after almost 3min gorgeous floating melodic paths are introduced, from then on its impossible to escape from this song's grip, 11 minutes of pure bliss, of dreaming away on delicious melodies and catchy basslines
With the Breaks Mix Derek turns the song in a dark breakbeat track, a little mess melodic but but therefore not less good. After an extensive build up of almost 6min, the main bassline and the gorgeous melodies appear, the song really explodes when the heavy breakbeats kick in again.
With this release Derek prooves ones again his enormous talent. On short time, he has become one of mine, and probably many others, favorite producers, and rightly
Again obligatory black gold for everybody liking melodic progressive trance
breaks mix is the better of the two imo

Yeah it's all about the breaks mix
Howell's been quite busy lately I see.. will check this one out soon
and this is the one with the beautiful guitar sampling
My god quality release again !!!
Howell is on FIRE
Well said Zevan! Alike many Derek Howell releases you aren't gonna be stuck with a mediocre B-side, but with massive interpretations on both ends. The original shows off the looping guitar sample and rolls and rolls and rolls. He's one of the few producers that actually allows a a 10-12 minute song listenable through its entirety. Never a dull moment and always full of energy and creativity. The Breaks mix is superb and I can't stop playing it at the moment. It's undescribable really. No words can really amount to what this sounds like out of my JBL EON monitors. SIMPLY MASSIVE.
11/10 and possibly the tune of the year/Vinyl Release of the year. Well done again Derek.

I prefer the original.

Bump.
Just heard these two tracks, and I am simply amazed at the Original version. Not too fond of the Breaks version, but I suppose it might grow on me. Howell is one of my favourite producers at the moment.
