not specifically to your hardware questions... but once you get the player, a great site to find the dvds is

www.dvdpricesearch.com

you type in a title, and it searches through tons of online sites to find the cheapest place that has the dvd

hey fastDJ,
i got the sony one... (its a dvd player, cd player, and radio tuner all in one - it also has an AUX which i plug my TV into...) b/c its got dolby digital 5.1 surround - comes with 5 sattelite speakers, a sub, all the connections, and easy directions.

it also is smaller than your VCR, and has like 8 different surround sound options (hall, church, warehouse, video arcade, etc...)

it only cost me around $600 US (which i guess is like 1000 canadian), but its not JUST a dvd player, y'know? if you want more info or a pic, let me know - i'll dig one out of sony.com er somethin!

if thats a little too pricey for ya, just remember this: you get what you pay for, so if you are getting a just-plain dvd player, make sure you don't get the cheapest one around. My friends have all cheaped out and theirs have all broke! Stay away from westinghouse, RCA, samsung, etc.... (you know the cheapo brands)

Well for the DVD its pretty simple to get quality, most brand name DVD players are all great. The Sony's and Toshiba's all have great producs, I own a Toshiba and a Sony...

If I was buying a newer model I would look for a DVD player that has the ability to play VCD and mp3's....

If your considering buying a home theater system you need to let me know what your budget is. I could recommend a few systems, but depending on the size of your room and how much money you have to spend I can't recommend anything without knowing those things

Please check out this site http://www.smr-forums.com/, it is the best place to learn about home theater and get recommendations from the experts. I have bought 3 home theater systems in the last 5 years, and everytime I have checked out those forums and gotten loads of good advice... If you are going to spend lots of money on a home system, you should really do the research.. Don't go into Future Shop and let those idiots tell you what Sony system is best

I can't stress enough that you do some research, there are so many amazing systems out there, but there are just as many crappy ones.

If you need any help deciding contact me, I will help you out, but give me a little time to look at whats new and exciting since I haven't really been following home theater since I bought my current system in January...

Thank you guys .

Well yesterday my parents and i we went to Brault & Martineau (they sell them) and we saw a JVC system that has the dvd player , an FM receiver , a subwoofer and 4 (or 5) speakers for 1000$ (CAN) . Both the player and the FM receiver were silver

Also i've seen two DVD Players that have MP3 players : Toshiba & Pionneer .

Like i told u , we are going to buy something after we finish moving to the new house and then we will decide . I guess we have enough time
