Forget the BCS and NFL, we're talking about the footy the rest of the world is crazy for. The super European professional leagues such as England's Premier League and Spain's La Liga are in full swing. But the contintent-wide non-league competition, the UEFA Champions League (+322%), is what's really heating up around the world and sparking searches in anticipation of each big game. This week's big match between Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid and Roman Serie A Club AS Roma will be played in an empty stadium as punishment for fans throwing objects at referees in a previous game. (Maybe NBA Commissioner David Stern should ponder staging the Christmas Day rematch between the Pacers and Pistons in a barren gym.
The FIFA World Cup doesn't kick off until the summer of 2006, but searches continue to rise as qualifying takes place throughout the footy-mad world. Even the normally soccer-apathetic U.S. is waking up a bit as the college soccer season comes to an end. Searches are climbing on "NCAA soccer" (+58%) and "college soccer" (+55%).

wow its about time i heard something like that ... with Man U, AC Milan , Barca etc touring the us over the last two years . i think its definately helped boost the soccer following this side of the world ... im fed up following most of the games on soccernet and paying 20 bucks to watch the big sunday games on ppv
Toronto has put in a bid for an MLS team. Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment are ready to back it.
Oh, and check ticketmaster for the Legends of Soccer match with Man U vs. Liverpool.

fuck MLS...the only quality soccer u can enjoy on this continent is when the european teams visit....to truly experience the magic of soccer u have to travel abroad...which i try to do every summer, this being one of the reasons....
soccer is all about fans, and the theatre-like crowds in North America just dont cut it for m...

I'm sure with more exposure and growing popularity we'll get there eventually...It'll just take time

The day Toronto finishes building its football specific stadium there�s no doubt that the MLS will be looking to expand beyond the borders of the United States. Toronto has a worthy football market and it�s proven itself in the days of NASL. For the misinformed noobs talking out of their ass about the fervour of the North American football scene, I�d recommend a few thorough google searches on the late 70�s Toronto Metros, early 80�s Toronto Blizzard, Juve connections, H-block, Roby Bettega etc�
Today the football reality in Toronto is quite different, Canada is nowhere on the world�s football map whereas our southern neighbours are deservedly in FIFA�s top 20, not that many people take those rankings seriously. The US have a quality national team composed of players evolving in Europe�s top leagues, however it should be noted that the trend is changing as more MLS players represent the nation, they have a strong domestic league, they have built several football specific stadiums in the last few years and more are on the way� The football fever has proliferated throughout the US since �94 at unexpected rates.
The MLS regardless of unjustified and often ignorant criticism has become quite a respectable league, it has produced several quality players that have adjusted in elite Euro leagues. This continent has a massive pool of young talent and the MLS serves as a trampoline to the EPLs, the Bundesligas... I�ve made the trek south of the border for a few encounters and I was exceedingly pleased with the quality of football and the atmosphere surrounding it. I�ve had the chance to catch Tim Howard in his last game for NY, which was a thrilling 3-3 draw against New England. There were half a dozen of busloads of NY Ultras who made the trip; that�s the kind of passion that is the very foundation of our religion. In terms of atmosphere, it was surprisingly, drastically superior to many games that I�ve caught throughout Europe. If you think MLS is no thrill let me disabuse you of that notion. I�d travel 500kms for an MLS match any day rather than watch European football action on a television set. The MLS generates massive interest throughout the country, attendance is more than respectable, the passion is there, obviously not at the desired level but nothing is accomplished over night. Ultras firm flourish in all corners of the US, the most impressive being the Chicage crew, which is composed of several thousand strong partisans, mostly Polish and other eastern-Europeans.
I hope MLS will find its way to Toronto, all that�s needed is a strong first season; a competitive football club surely won�t lack support in the city. Atmosphere is the heart and soul of football, it�s what makes it the unparalleled sport on the planet, I hope the ones who paint themselves as diehards on here will be in the midst of the Toronto Ultras section when time comes to walk the walk.

Mussolini�s fascist society adorned by country bumpkins has no place in civilized Europe, a team who represents everything humanity has fought against disgraces the Seria-A and football in general. Lazio's President Sergio Cragnotti talks about his club in tones of disgust, calling its fans "imbeciles," and frequently threatens resignation. Expect little sign of civilization from most of the fascist adorners of the this club that has no place in football.
Although the S.S. stands for societ� sportiva, Lazio merits the abbreviation's worst connotations. Of all the clubs in Europe, each with its own goon squad of skinhead supporters, Lazio fans are easily the most racist, anti-Semitic, pro-fascist, and despicable of the bunch.
Lazio has always had unsavory connections and a spot on the brownshirts' end of the political spectrum. Mussolini adored the team, frequently appearing in the stands. Il Duce even built Lazio's current stadium, replacing the old Stadio del Partito Nazionale Fascista. Founded in 1900 by Italian army officers, the club shrouded itself in a martial ethos.
The team's logo, a strident-looking eagle, was ripped off of one of Mussolini's caps. And with its north Rome fan base, Lazio attracted the conservative shopkeepers and bumpkins who constituted fascism's rank and file.
As the memory of Mussolini has grown distant, Lazio's affection for fascism has increased. Rightist parties like the old Alleanza Nazionale treated the team's stadium as their recruiting grounds. In the '80s, the ultras' politics acquired a racist, xenophobic bent as Italy attracted immigrants and Italian football attracted Brazilian and African players. New venomous slogans and banners began appearing in the Curva Nord, the ultra section of Lazio's stadium. Before one game last year, police seized 60 different racist and anti-Semitic banners but missed several large ones, including a 50-meter-long banner that taunted fans from a cross-town rival by declaring that they had a "Black Squad, Jewish Home End." At another match against Roma, the opponents were greeted with a sign that told them, "Auschwitz is your town, the ovens your houses." The ultras have been known to appropriate the Nazi font when spelling the "S.S." in S.S. Lazio. And when watching Lazio's matches on the Fox Sports World cable network, you can still catch glimpses of Mussolini's visage adoringly displayed by the crowd.
The ultras aren't merely making political statements. They like to put their slogans into action. During the previous two seasons, police tied Lazio's ultras to several acts of domestic terrorism. One planted a bomb at a museum dedicated to Italy's World War II resistance. Rome police also defused a Lazio bomb at a theater showing a documentary on Adolf Eichmann. On other occasions, Lazio fans have desecrated Jewish cemeteries and beaten players from opposing teams. Even by the appalling standards of European soccer, Lazio fans are object lessons in amorality.
Remarkably, Lazio reflects its fans' sentiments. Unlike Roma or almost every other team in the Series A, Lazio's roster is devoid of black players. When it once imported one, Dutchman Aron Winter, he quickly left after the team's fans hounded him with chants of "****** Jew." Rather suspiciously, nearly all of Lazio's current foreign imports hail from countries with fascist pasts�Chile, Argentina, and Serbia. The team's defender, Sinisa Mihajlovic, unabashedly trumpets his devotion to Slobodan Milosevic and his friendship with the Serbian paramilitary leader Arkan, whose band of thugs raped and pillaged their way across Bosnia. When Arkan was killed, Mihajlovic placed a wistful memorial notice in a Belgrade daily.
If that didn't convince Lazio's management to distance themselves from Mihajlovic�or, better yet, ship him back to Belgrade�his behavior on the field should have. Last season, a player of Senegalese descent accused Mihajlovic of calling him a "fucking black monkey." (Asked about the allegations, he replied: "I called him black shit. I didn't call him black monkey.") Alas, Lazio's punishment of Mihajlovic amounted to little more than a forced public apology. His coach even defended him: "I don't know whether you can call it racism. It's just making fun of someone." And moments after Mihajlovic made the apology, at a home game, fans began making monkey noises every time a Nigerian player touched the ball.
For the sake of sanity, there�s still a large faction in Rome to oppose the fascist regime. Lazio's ties with National Alliance is a disgrace for the game, the former fascist party still disturbingly commands around 35 percent of the vote in Rome. For half a century, Lazio's far right fascism has been countered by their rivals Roma's Ultras left-wing views.
The Primitivism has reached unprecedented echelons. This club is undoubtedly the biggest shame of European football in the modern day!

theres an indoor football day comin up at the end of febuary at the acc.manchester united will be entering a team.Its called the masters which means it will be older guys that used to play.Ithink canada will have a team and the diving,all out defending wops will have 1 there to.thats all i know,maybe someone else knows more???
