Posted by Krypton on Dec-10-2004 00:37:

i say, the greatest war between any two nations ever in the history of the world. millions would die. and both nations historically have thrown their soldiers haphazardly into battle time after time, and can afford to do so.

If Russia took Turkey from the rear... would Greece help?

Posted by Petrogad on Dec-10-2004 14:13:

Posted by occrider on Dec-10-2004 14:30:

Ummm in what lifetime would China invade Russia when Russia has over 2500 strategic and tactical nukes?

Well with the way television is getting it will probably become the normality for people in a hundred years time. Reality tv will exhaust itself eventually using non-violent means of entertainment.

The Chinese and Russians have a shared border and in the middle in Mongolia. If they wanted to they could just march on over. The Amur River would be the biggest obsticale facing the Chinese if they did invade. The Russians could give up a lot of land if they wished but would lose a lot of oil and other natural resources.

Read The Bear and the Dragon by Tom Clancy. It gives a good setup if a war like this happened in post-Cold War Russia.

Riiiight...so we are basing this theory that China wants to go to war with Russia on a Tom Clancy novel?

Amazon.com Synopsis

The above link goes to Amazon.com where it gives a description of the book. In the end, political and military pressure by the United States saves the day. (Naturally, it is a Tom Clancy novel, the US ALWAYS saves the day)

It has been awhile since I read the book. I was just trying to add to the random post that China will invade Russia. Maybe we are looking into some random post a bit too much. Personally from an economic standpoint, if China took oil-laden Siberia it would hurt the Russian economy. Russia is the world's largest exporter of oil outside of OPEC. The loss of oil until the Chinese redeveloped and rebuilt war-torn Siberia would take time. The Russian would not leave the oil wells intact would they? And the Chinese might keep the oil for themselves. In the short term, the price of oil would go up, rippling across the globe affecting any industrialized nation.

And guess who the major buyer of this oil is?

Well he wasnt using this book as a basis for the theory, just saying that a fictional book has documented what might happen.

Sorry but you can't use a piece of fiction as proof that China wants to invade Russia! When I asked for a link it wasn't aimed at you but the person who started the thread. If your gonna start a thread with no evidence (ie it is your own idea) at least explain it! All he said was China to annex Russia or summat like that...

A lot of books "document what might happen" in probably almost every possible scenario you can think of...!

I must hand it to you. That was some good wit!

The key word is IF. I was using it as an EXAMPLE, IF China invaded Russia. Considering politics today, that is a pretty big IF.

My money is the People's Republic of China will more likely invade The Republic of China which we call Taiwan.

When that happens, i lose one of my useless passports and nationalities ... woohoo!!!

In simplistic terms, the PRC has pretty much the necks of RoC, you just have to wait for two things, Economic Integration between the straits and in about 10 years, the ROC wouldn't exist at all. This is assuming the PRC don't invade them within 10 years and a less authoritative approach from PRC
